Hey Gang..
My buddy has asked me to come down and take some promo shots of his band. We will be outdoors with plenty of light. I was hoping some of you might have some advise as to camera settings for this situation, or any suggestions for good pics.
The faster the better on the help would be appreciated. I will be heading over there at 1pm CA time.
Thanks much
Ed

Pray for clouds. Bright sunshine midday is the worst time to shoot people. Not to mention the glare you will get off of the instruments. If not then try to get them into a shady area and use fill flash if you need to.

I try to never shoot in direct sun. Clouds or the shade are my friends. Use a flash, powered down for fill light.

I built a diffusion screen using PVC pipe and a white nylon purchased from a local fabric shop. Use that to soften the sunlight as a diffuser or use it to add fill. Sorry much of our support came too late to be used in today''s shoot. Please let us see some of the pictures you were able to get.

thanks for the tips gang. wish I had something like that white nylon. Those outdoor shots were though. I really need to dig a little deeper in to learning this dat gum camera, LOL. I will see if I can find any good ones and post a few for y'all. One of them may actually end up in a magazine. I forget which one but they are doing something on Bands and their Vans. So I was taking wshots of the guys with their van.
Thanks again

Buy a 5 in 1 reflector 120cm x90cm or bigger. Take the cover off and use the translucent material to provide shadow to subjects and diffuse light.
Depending on how big your group is you may need more than one.
Oh youll need an assistant to hold these/ this for you.
alternatively find locations that provide open shade and you'll be fine.
Another option is to shoot earlier in the morning or later afternoon.
