I own the A70, and will be taking it on a road trip to the Rockies in late September / early October.

What I'm curious about is the operating temperature says 0 - 40 degrees C (32 - 104 degrees F), and I was wondering what exactly that means?

Should I do something to keep it warm (wrap it in a sweater, maybe) and not use it at all in temps colder than 0, or will it just malfuction in the colder temps?

I guess my concern is that it will damage my camera if I turn it on when it's cold?

Any help is appreciated. :)

Battery life is horridly poor at very cold weather. So these are best kept warm as possible (this means keeping you camera tucked in you pocket or some other means of keeping it warmer than sub zero.)

The camera itself may very well operate in sub zero temperatures, but it may be sluggish, and go through the batteries at an enormous rate (maybe not though.)

Also, worry about condensation! When taking a camera in and out of warm and cold climates, you can easily get condensation (like if you kept your camera between your jacket and you.) This could kill your camera. You may wish to toss a few silica gel packets in your camera case.

Alternatively, (although this is a bother, it just might work great) keep your batteries in your pocket (toasty and warm) then slip them into the camera when taking a few shots. This way your batteries are not frozen, and operating at full power. But, you stand a chance of dropping one or more of the batteries as you load and unload them.
