I have found on my 1Ds that if I turn on the camera and let the power down time expire (2 minutes) and then depress the shutter button slightly, the camera will power up. Then if I try to take a photo, the shutter will lock up.The viewfinder is black, the mirror is up and does not return. No photo is taken. I have to turn off the power switch and then turn it back on. There is no 'STANDBY'. I didn't expect one, but the power on by pressing the shutter button fooled me into thinking that it might work. No way. Pretty annoying!
I was photographing an Airshow in Lucern, Switzerland and had to wait between planes.. just when I wanted to shoot, the shutter would lock-up. When I return to the States, I will send to Canon for a checkup. ANybody else experience this? Note: changing the power-down time to 8 minutes seems okay.. I need to do more analysis to nail down the problem.
