Very nice shot of the B-17 (right hand picture). The lighting is very good. The exposure and color balance seem to be right on. The composition is good for the situation that you were faced with.
Interest is fairly high, in that not too many B-17's are still around in one piece.
The flagpole with B-17 behind is a little different situation. Here your picture suffers from two problems - both related to the vantage point. Had you stepped back a bit, the flagpole would be growing out of the ground instead of out of the frame. Also, notice how much darker this image is as compared to the right hand picture.
This is just a guess, but I think you purposely underexposed this one for some reason. The other problem with the vantage point is that the plane and the dark tree behind it are too close in tonal value, so the plane does not stand out separate from the tree as much as it could. Moving to your left or your right might have given you a better shot.
Both pictures are very nice and very interesting.

I don't think the aircraft on the right is a B-17.

You know, you're probably right. I just realized that the two pictures are of two different types of aircraft. I was so hung up on the fact that it had both a ball turret underneath as well as the turret above, that I didn't notice that the cockpit doesn't look a thing like a B-17. Maybe the other one is a B-17. Meanwhile, what is the one that's closer - is it a twin engine instead of a 4 engine?

It's a B-29 Superfortress

Correct. The one on the right is a B-29 and the one on the left could be a B-17. (Orig photo)

It certainly is consistent with the Enola Gay, so I accept that, but why in the world are those two turrets on there when there are none on the Enola Gay? Was she slicked up special to be able to have a greater cruising range or were the turrets retractable?

Good question Bob. My guess is that one or the other is an older model. I'm not much of B-29 guy, I do know a little about the B-24.

Ah yes, the B-24. Isn't that the one that flew Billy Mitchell and his gang from the deck of a carrier to Tokyo?

The Tokyo raid was made in B-25's. The B-24 Liberator seen some action in the Pacific but most was in the EOT. Most famous for it's raids to the Romania Oil refineries.

Is that a scale model/monument of an SR-71 because it looks awfull small from the SR-71's ive stood next too. Could just be the vantage point in the picture I guess.
