Folks, it's 'aperture' not 'aperature.'
Sorry, I don't normally point out these sorts of things but I see it so often in here and it's such a fundamental term in photography, I thought I would point it out.
No offense intended to anyone.
Thanks for humoring me. I feel better now.

Thanks for that. I'm English btw and I spelled 'humor' the American way out of politeness and respect for the Americans here.
:-)
I will confine all future posts to the subject of lens softness.

I will confine all future posts to the subject of lens softness.Get bashed in the head with a lens, and you won't be describing it as soft..... :p
By the way - I, too, get irritated with the incorrect spelling I often see. The one that rubs me the most is "lense". While there may be a dictionary somewhere that shows it as an alternate spelling, I don't know of any camera or lens manufacturers who spell lens with two e's.

Only camera and lens manufacturers consistently use "engrish" in advertising, so I wouldn't exactly use them as a guideline.

Engrish...come on now, we're all here centered around Japaneese products...we love Japaneese! The least you can do is spell Engrish the way it sounds! It would be bad Karma not too and you may incur a curse! Oooo...maybe Bird Fru! Ahhhhh....

it's such a fundamental term in photography.
...but less fundamental than LENS
That's L E N S
a four letter word
not a five letter word
With only ONE 'E'
God, I love a good rant this time of the evening.

According to merriam-webster, both are correct.
Main Entry: lens
Variant(s): also lense /'lenz/
Function: noun

also lense
... then we must now be in that Brave New World where if you misspell or misuse often enough you get accepted (cf 'to beg the question')

I've also encountered the variant "appature".
Any others? Maybe we can compose a POTN Dictionary with lots of variants!
