Hello All,
Today I just got my new 10D in the mail and anxiously ran to the back yard to try it out. Here is the first shot recorded (hand held in wind).

Please provide critique. I am an eager amateur who appreciates constructive criticism. The first comes from myself wishing I had tighter focus on wasp and more depth of field.
Please comment.
Thank you!

Sadly the little bug is in the shadow and just out of focus. Compared to the rose, it's lacking in punch and colour (which would be great if only he was more prominant.)
What you got is great first shot though.

Rob Larsen,
Great first try!! You are going to love the 10D, try and get as much rest as possible, you are not going to get much as you get rest now that you have the 10D.
What lenses did you get? Did you get any other accessories?
Enjoy!

Great pic, but I have to comment on that Gremlin looking thing behind the wasp (what is that?). At first I didn't like it because it distracted my eye from the wasp/rose, but the more I look at the picture, the more I like it.
It looks like Gizmo gone crazy, coming in for the attack. LOL! I think this is my favorite picture here to date!
PS. The background has JUST the right amount of blur. Excellent job.

NiL,
My budget has currently limited me only to an "all purpose lens" which is the 28-135IS. I also picked up the 420EX Speedlight to replace my 550EZ which I have used for years on my EOS 620. On my near-term shopping list is a 70-200IS, a 50 f1.4, and a TBD super wide angle.
Thank you for your comments. I hope to get some sleep next week.

I love your interpretation! Gizmo is actually the remnants of a dead rose that has lost all it's pedals.
Gizmo is one of the features I like too. He adds interest and anchors my eyes from wandering to far to the upper right. I also see the yellow rose in upper right as critical for balance and framing. Overall I'm fond of the color and spatial relationships. Just wish I would have achieved a crisper focus on foreground!
Thank you for your comments.
