Yup, finally have taken delivery of the 1D that I've been lusting over for the past near 4 weeks (and very badly I might add). It's night time here, so I can't do much with it, other than take boring indoors shots. Hoping to get out and about with it tommorrow during daylight!

Congratulations. I know it means a lot to you and I'm glad it all finally came together.

Ta :) The only disappointment (and I've just realised it), is that the FireWire cable is a 6pin (at the Camera end) to 4 pin (at the PC end), and my onboard FireWire port is only a 6 pin...Oops! I just double checked, there is a tiny 4 pin FireWire port there! Yay me, gonna go play with it now :-)

Thanks guys, several months back, just after I got my D60, I actually thought about upgrading to a 20D, I never even gave a 2nd hand 1D a thought. But a few good posts on these very forums, a bit of research, and a bit of commonsense on the mp issue, convinced me that the 1D was a good, solid choice.
Interestingly, it's an early model (serial number 012153), so I tested it by taking a relatively darker shot, handheld, at ISO 1600, and deliberately exposed to the left, and couldn't see the banding issue. It has been into Canon over the past 3 weeks for a service checkup, so maybe if it did have any issues they fixed it. The costs for the service checkup where higher than the previous owner expected (and he only got a service checkup 8 months ago, this time it was substantially higher according to him). And yes, he gave me the receipt, so he wasn't diddling me!
Overall, the only potential disadvantage of the 1D is the amount of mp means you have to "fill the frame", as cropping is potentially dangerous with pixelisation effects. No bigger for me in general usage, but might become more of an issue when trying to grab those bird shots.
Cheers,
Dave

At last, a very happy bunny. Cannot see you being disappointed with it. I tend to use my 20D if I know I'm going to have to crop quite a bit but in saying that not as much as I expecvted to. I am constantly amazed as to how much the 1D 4Mp will actually give you.
Anyway nice to see a happy beginning.
edit. I actually got my 20D after the 1D, if I had got the 20D first I may well have missed the joy of using the 1D that it has always given me, I would not have considered it because of the 'only' 4Mp.
