This picture of the skate boarder is so awesome! It just sold me. Because of this photo, I am now going to purchase this lens. I have been trying to decide which wide angle I was going to get and now I'm sold. You should go straight to Canon and ask for your share of the commission from my sale. ;-)
Haha, I think I'll ask for money off of the MkII version instead. ;-)

i had UV filters but i never used it, or for honest i just bought it as i was thinking to use it then i found i don't want it, i use Pol and ND instead, and many shots i posted i use either CPL or GND or both, my sunset shot i used ND and GND both stacked together.

I want the 16-35L II so bad I have dreams about it. I've gone into withdrawals since selling off my MK I version. The problem is I really do need to acquire glass in other focal lengths first. Hopefully she'll be in my hands by Christmas. :(

thanks tareq....it's kinda scary thinking about not putting a filter over this bad boy coz the glass is so close to the edge that it might get scratched easily. (more easier than a 100-400l with hood on at least)
a cp on this lens? 82 diameter? that's gonna be expensive :-(

I am happy with 16-35L MK 1, and many pros using it or 17-40 and got amazing superb winning shots, so why you think that MK 2 will make your shots much better if you don't print so large prints? for web viewing i can't see the differences.
I agree about putting filters on glasses for protection

it is proven on many websites and magazines that UV filters dont affect IQ enough worry about. Always always always put a UV filter on your lens, period. One little nick of the lens on a brick or whatevrr and your $1600 lens is shot, period.

It was an extremely low point for me, but surprisingly enough we recovered quickly from it. As you can see, I still did end up selling a lot of stuff and replacing it with more practical items. ;)
I thought long and hard about my next lens purchase today and decided that the 16-35 II is probably no longer in the cards for me. Came close to just buying one, but then decided to wait. I'm glad I did now because I have my sights set on a new UWA lens that will satisfy my need for ultra wide. Nevertheless, the 16-35 will always be one of my all time most beloved L zooms. The 24-70 will pretty much mitigate the need for it, and the rectangular UWA lens I plan to get will be extremely wide enough to cover that niche in my tool bag. Better start saving my pennies. ;)

Was there any special filtering applied in Photoshop?

Glad you like the photos!
Most of these photos has had quite a bit of contrast applied in post-processing.
On some of these this was done with a S-curve in photoshop Curves. On others I bumped the brightness, contrast and shadows in the RAW conversion. The colors and saturation has been tweaked slightly on each image as well.
Hope this helps.

A couple of mk1 photos from today (both 5-image-HDRs, 1d2, CS2-spawned-false-blur/vignetting-of-edge). The one thing that just absolutely stuns me about this lens is its rich color rendition. RAWs converted with no modification look like JPEGs with +2 saturation!

I've posted these in other thread, but the 16-35 is so sweet with the 5D and enables you to get shots you otherwise could miss, and very nice IQ through aperture ranges, so:

I read the review and its only slightly better at CA and with less vignetting but this only applies to a FF camera and as both mine are crop cameras this will be no benefit to me plus it needs bigger filters which are really expensive.
I am really looking forward to getting mine.

Same here. Just not interested as mine works great on a 1.3x sensor. If I had FF, it might be a different story... But even still, I'm just really not interested in the 82mm filter size. I've got enough invested in filters in 72/77mm as it is and it's bad enough I have to carry that bizarre hood... ;)

For half-body to full-body on APS-C its fine. It has a nice working distance.
Just avoid close-in head shots, they may be distorted.
On FF its also possible, be creative and make use of the space around to frame. I love this lens more than my 24-105L.
below are some examples.

And i love 16-35L because of 2.8 [low light or more bokeh] as well, can't blame people if they don't use it for low light, but i always try to be in safe side, at least 16-35L will give me 1 stop more which can help in many cases, and i don't want to talk about IQ of both, and maybe because 17-40L is cheaper so it is more preferable.

Nah at all, consider it as an upgrade, still this lens is a killer, and no regret here, even for that corner sharpness as i am working on full frame is not an issue to me at all, i don't have 17-40 to make a comparison and many comparisons out there are enough, just it will never stop me to get 16-35 and here i am.

I am debating on getting this lens or the 17-55 IS. I like the versatility of having both the f/2.8 aperture and IS, but the L build quality makes it feel like it would last forever, a feeling that I don't entirely get from the 17-55. The main use would be for street photography on a 40D. Thoughts?

If i were in your place then i will get 2 lenses as the main lenses for street for crop bodies: 10-22, 24-70[or 24-105].

Thanks for the advice Tareq. I have heard a lot of good things about the 10-22 lens as well. I also am considering going with a two camera setup. If I get a second body, I would probably get a 5D Mark I. This would have me covered at the wide end(if I got a 16-35) and then I could get a 24-70 to use on the crop body. Two bodies would kind of defeat a minimalist approach though...
