Hi
I was wondering if anyone had a puff of smoke problem with thier
PowerShot SD 500 or Powershot SD400 flash !
My SD 500 in being looked at by Canon as I write.
It only happens in certain lighting situations,I dont have the flash set on but it goes on anyway and flashes with a strange sound sorta a double sound as it flashes and a puff of smoke comes out with a burning scent.
I have only one witness to this issue and Im looking for more *LOL someone thinks Ive lost my mind!
I was using my SD400 because I sent the SD500 in and it happened to that one too; only the smoke and scent was less.
The stage ; with the SD500 I was taking a pic of the inside of the storage shed while outside during mid afternoon.
The garage shades me completely and it wasnt a sunny day just daylight.
I also took a few of the inside of the garage and it did happen once .
OH, I also noticed that the battery was low even though It just came out of the charger.
The SD400 I was facing the north around 3pm in front of the garage again full shade, that is when I got the tiny puff from that camera.
Please dont say Im MAD! I dont have a vision problem and never took any drugs*LOL and my nose works very well*LOL

Thank You Very Much!

Were you firing repeated flash shots? If so, you could have overheated the flash circuitry.

Thank you for your reply !
Not faster then usual, and it was the first few pics I shot so it couldnt be heated up after no shots then one.
Could it be the difference in temps from indoors to out,it was about 49deg outside when I took some of the shots so I went indoors and tried again and it smoked then also..
I didnt use open lens.Im rather bothered that they have my camera for 4weeks and there is no informationon repair or cause as of this morning!
The cards were melting and the battery melted on one spot between the goldish connections.Which I sent them to proove Im not nuts!
It did the puff smoke thing even indoors taking indoor shot.
I have it set for 2sec review I wait till I see the pic then shoot again.
I dont know I just want my camera back in working order. Actually..the shots that cause the camera to smoke came out fine. Anyone viewing the pics couldnt tell I had a problem.I hope Canon isnt like SONY in thier repair problems solving.
I left the settings as I do when using it 95percent of the time and as I had it when shooting at the time of this nightmare.
Thank you for listening to me Im just so bothered by this...

Update waiting for the part!
I'm so upset!! I need my camera, my camera is traveling more in 6 weeks then I did in 16years! Waiting on a part ...what are they doing inventing it, waiting for a patent to go thru?
That's fine... just send me a new one while they try to repair that one! I NEED MY CAMERA! Thanks..
