My son had a visitor from NASA yesterday. This is him in the space suit developed for space walking.

There is supposed to be an eclipe tomorrow. Does anyone know how I can take a picture of the event without frying my camera or my eyes? Thanks in advance.

The solar eclipse tomorrow will not be visible in the US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_eclipse

I googled for tips on photographing solar eclipses and found this: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEhelp/eclipsePhoto.html

I guess I can't get to West Africa by the time the eclipse takes place. :( Has anyone ever taken pictures before here in the forum of a solar eclipse?

Eclipse photography is tricky. See http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~ipswich/Observations/Eclipse-2002-12-04/Eclipse.htm for one amateur astronomer's story of his attempts - with links to all the previous fun and games.

With your telelens, you can take two photos of this event.

One with your left eye, one with your right.

PS. Sorry, it's an old one, but very true.

Sounds too dangerous. Was going to suggest that the LCD display of a P&S might be much safer than an optical viewfinder, but then the sun will just conveniently fry the P&S. Better it than you, but it doesn't make for good photos :(

There are special mylar filters suggested on the website in my original post.
