550 ex question...high speed?

Hi,

I'm currently on vacation, and I don't have the directions to my 550ex flash.

How does one use the 550 in high speed sync mode? I know to push the + and - buttons, and the H with the lightning bolt appears on the flash, but the camera still remains at 60 for shutter speed. The H does not appear in the camera.

Also when using this mode, I have found the shutter speed and f-stop are different on the LCD screen vs. the info inside the shutter.

How can I use the high speed sync?

it works only if the ambient is bright enough that your camera reads a shutter speed of more than 200

You need to invoke the high flash option via the cf menu as well on the flash?
