View Full Version : The Fallas festivities in Valencia, Spain (56 k warning)

The Fallas are monuments, made of papier-mache on a wooden structure, wit satyric or humorous motives.
They are paid for by a numner of members, usually in the same neighborhood, (over 400 in the whole city) and built from March 20th to March 12 of the following year.
They commemorate the day of St Joseph who is the patron of the city (although they were put in place of the pagan Spring Ferstivity , by the Christian Church, centuries ago).
On the night of March 19 th they are burned to the ground, among great displays of fireworks.
This is the winning Falla of 2006. I hope you enjoy it.

nice pictures! i was there and saw a couple people shooting with canons and white lenses. i wonder if one of them was you. unfortunately i only took my p&s because before i left Madrid I had no hostel or hotel arrangement for the second night , and didn't want to have my rebel on me if i was sleeping on a bench!

HAHA...a small world, ain't it?

No it wasn't me ...I didn't use my 70-200 on any of the pics I took there. They were all taken with the 24-70f 2.8

That's an excellent series Freddy. The models are really well-made, so it is a shame that they're burned. :(
