Of these two, I would get the canon,. the extra 10mm at the long end may help more than that fraction of an f stop at the short end. Besides,. with the 50mm, you have a low light lens if needed.
I don't know the price of these lenses, (I assume about $100.00?? )
But ,.. if you can possibly swing the 28-135mm IS,. that would be a keeper lens,.. no matter what you end up with in the future. It's images would be more in the league of the 50mm f/1.8 you are now familiar with.

Just read your second post.
Sigma makes some good lenses,. and when compared with the "cheap" Canons,. they stack up pretty well. I had a Sigma 28-200mm and really did well with it. I still use a 28-300mm and a host of the more pricey ones. Alas I have no expeirience with either of the 28-105s you mention.

I have experience of the 28-105.
About a weeks worth, before I sold it and bought a used canon 28-105 USM (metal mount).
I found the sigma hunts a lot for focus, and I do mean a lot even on a eos 600 (which are great for low light focusing). The F2.8 is only there in the 28-35 range, from 35-105 you have f4, and at 2.8 it is rather soft. Infact I found at 28mm you needed to stop down to 5.6 to get acceptable images.
Go with the Canon :)

also i am looking at:
Canon EF 28-105mm f/4.0-5.6
Sigma AF 28-105mm f/2.8-4.0 (IF) for Canon
both are almost the same price but look at the f stop difference?
ive never owned a sigma so im a bit dubious
Canon also makes an EF 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6. B&H sells it for $220 ($200 imported.) The F/4-5.6 version goes for $160 ($145.)
I bought the 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 USM used for $160 and rated it well.
To get greater reach and IS, I sold it for $218 and purchased a used Canon 28-135mm IS USM for $309.
If you can stretch your budget, I'd recommend the 28-135mm.

Hi,
I use the Sigma 28-105 f2.8-4 and love it.
But you allready made your choice :D.
The Sigma is very sharp, and the f2.8 will help you sometimes when light is bad, autofocus is rather quick.
And you get a lens hood for free.

Frank

Possible either I got a dud or you got a keeper - but that does illustrate a point with sigma lenses. On the consumer end the quality control is not consistent.
Glad you like yours, it was a nice feeling lens but for its problems :)

I bought the Sigma 18-105 as a back up. It isn't the best glass in the world but it works well. If it is all that you can afford then by all means purhase it.
