So I need a laptop for work (text, quickbooks, etc.), I will use it in the car aswell as a portible printer. But I would also like to get one with a good screen for photography, I was thinking something like this;

http://reviews.cnet.com/Fujitsu_Life...?tag=pdtl-list (http://reviews.cnet.com/Fujitsu_LifeBook_P1510D_Notebook_512MB/4505-3121_7-31469144.html?tag=pdtl-list)

But I have no idea how good the LCD is, and since it's touch screen I know it won't be that good.

Any ultra-portable's out there that you think I should take a look at? I need to order the laptop by the end of this weekend.

Biometrics, touch screen (one that you can actually use your finger on), and all that fancy stuff is good, and you'll have a lot of fun, but it'd be rather useless for photography. Photoshop would run fast as a snail, and you'd have to squint or zoom like crazy to see any detail in your shots, as it's not even a 9" screen. If I were going that small, I'd get a Toshiba Libretto, or better yet, a Sony Vaio, preferably the T series. Still won't run PSCS2 for crap, but any of those three, including the one you brought up, would be great for quickbooks, word processing, surfing the net, etc. PIM tasks, basically. Can't envision a suitable touch screen at that size, though...anyone with slightly large hands/fingers would have a heck of a time picking out a single point to touch.

Simply put: Looks great for a standard computer (don't hope for miracles), but very pricey for what it does.

IMHO, I would say as long as it is pretty fast, and you can connect it to an external CRT for exacting photo work, it might be slower but you might do okay with it. The main thing is, my recent reading still indicates that a state-of-the-art LCD just isn't good enough yet for doing quality photo editing.

I hear ya...

BTW - It is a real touch screen.

I wasn't planning on using PSCS2 on it, or any editing for that matter. Just as a backup on vacation, and to compare shots in the field, etc. I have a super-compact 40Gig HD that's powered off the USB that I would use to store the photos on too. I guess I'm fixated on the idea of a tablet, if I wanted to show a client a slide-show of our work it'd really come in handy.

I hear the T series screens are of high quality, might be shopping between the two.

I think the 19" ones still have the same resolution as the 17" laptops, but at least the screen would be bigger! I saw some yesterday online, but can't remember the company name...

Samsung will be the first to introduce a 19" notebook, and that will be October of this year, from what I've read.

How 'bout that, only $3,000! :p

That said, though, it looks like one hell of a machine.

Wow...$3000 I had not looked at the price. Thats like an extra thousand dollars an inch vs. the hP that I have.

Oh, but the one they pointed out looks like quite the gem. 512 dual video card (extreme gaming, and a pricey upgrade), 120 gig FAST hard drive, TV tuner, 2 gigs of RAM, etc. It's a beast.

it's $3500 with all the features and XP Pro. the Ram, tuner, XP Pro, and the 120gig drive were all extra.

I wasn't going to get into that, but I agree! :-)

I know a Mac would work best for me, but I don't feel like switching around from Mac OS to XP everytime I need to copy backups to my work computer or home computers. I'm thinking I might get a Thinkpad tablet...
