Anyone familiar with this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=402147&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation) brand of bracket or this product in particular?? B and H says it's a new item, but I'm guessing the brand isn't new. I did a forum search and didn't come up with anything... It seems like an affordable option for a bracket, but I don't want it if it's junk... thoughts anyone???

Thanks!

p.s. Did the link to B and H work?? If not, it's the Samigon V-H Flip Bracket.

Yes, blueminnie, the link works. I've never seen one before but it looks like a neat item and B&H is a very respected place with easy return policies if you don't like it. If you order it let us know what you think.

One problem I see, is that the flash is not mounted over the lens. Same problem with the Manfrotto unit.

There's better picture of it here (https://www.central-camera.com/flash/samigon/CSA843.htm) that shows how it works. It looks like you can mount the flash directly over the camera. If it's well-built, it would be a pretty good unit for the money.

Thanks for the input.....I've decided I'm going to get it. As Pawnee Dan pointed out, if it sucks, I can return it. I'll let you know how it works!! :)

Well, one problem I see right out of the gate is that it rotates the camera the wrong way... at least looking at the animated GIF on the link. If you have a grip or pro body, it will rotate the vertical button to the bottom. I would also think that the camera would slip around on it from the looks of the mount. One plus is that it doesn't apppear to look like there is anything to interfere with a larger camera body. I would think though, that the added weight may stress the whole system and be unstable.

I fussed with some inexpensive brackets until I found the Custom Brackets line. They are expensive, but they work extremely well and handle a pro body with ease.

Well, you can either mount it the other way 'round, or you can use a cable release, which, with that grip, I'd be inclined to do.

Unlike the original image, the link shows that the flash can be mounted over the lens. The actual flash mount apparatus however, looks a little unstable. Please report back on how you like it. I'd be very interested.

Thanks for the other link Curtis and for the rest of you who checked it out and gave your input. I tried to order it from B and H yesterday, but it is out of stock. Will order it when it comes available and report on how it works.

Hmmm, good point :) I was ordering some other stuff from B and H and thought I might wait and order all together, but could't wait for my other stuff, so...who did you order yours from??

Incidentally, I just came across this review for the Samigon. Someone else too the plunge and wrote about it.

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean to imply that I ordered one, only that I found a vendor who has them in stock. If I didn't already have a flash bracket I might be temped, though.

According to the review you linked, it appears to be a good concept, poorly engineered. Something like that, built solidly, would be a real nice bracket.
