Since the Canon wide and tele lenses don't have filter threads on the front of them, how well will it work to put the filter before the wide/tele lense?

So:

G3 -> 58mm adapter -> 58mm Polarizer/UV -> WC/TC-DC58N

or

G3 -> 52mm adapter -> 52mm-58mm step ring -> 58mm Polarizer/UV -> WC/TC-DC58N

or

G3 -> 52mm adapter -> 52mm Polarizer/UV -> 52mm-58mm step ring -> WC/TC-DC58N

I have not uses filters at all before so I don't know if this will work or not? If this doesn't work then I guess I need to get a Tiffen or other wide/tele combo if I want to use filters.

Thanks,

-Darryl

Hi,

I'm not an expert on this issue, but I sincerely doubt that you should put filters between the adapter and the tele converter.

As I understand it, teleconverters are engineered to fit the camera at a certain distance, and the usage of any step-up/down or filter rings in between might result in optical disadvantages like loss of sharpness or chromatic aberrations.
