For me it's not possible to download pictures from my S50 camera to my pc with the TWAIN-driver.
The TWAIN-driver (version 6) doesn't work under Windows 2000 Pro. Everytime I get the message: 'Cannot detect camera. Check connection to camera, then retry.'
Tried everything like another USB-port etc etc.
The driver works fine under Windows 98 but refuses to work under Windows 2000 Pro.

Does somebody have an idea to solve this problem?

TIA!

Does the camera show up in device manager?

Do you have any other usb devices plugged in to your PC? If so, what?

Did you connect the camera prior to installing the TWAIN driver software?

Hello JohnnyE,

The camera shows up in the device manager.
It also shows up in Scanners & Cameras in the Control Panel.

The other USB devices I have plugged in are my HP scanjet 5370C and my Epson photoprinter 1270. I tried the camera also with the scanner and printer unplugged.

When I installed the TWAIN driver the camera was not connected. After the installation was completed I plugged in the camera and Windows recognised it.

In the readme file Canon suggest to put the file DISPINIT.EXE in the startup procedure of Windows.

The Still Image Service is running also.

Only with ZoomBrowser I can download photos from the S50 to my pc.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. The camera is being detected fine, and you can download using ZB, but you want to just use the TWAIN driver to download without ZB. Is that right? The TWAIN ver 6.0 wasn't written to be able to do that from what I understand. It doesn't work on my system either.

The same TWAIN-driver (it's for win98 and win2k) works fine under Windows 98, without ZoomBrowser.
I uninstalled ZoomBrowser to check if this was causing the problem. Did the same with my scanner-software, but nothing did solve the problem.
As far as I understand you should be able to download pictures with the TWAIN-driver with other programs like Photoshop.
I think that there's something wrong with my pc-system or that there is asoftware-conflict somehow.

I have just bought an IXUS 400 - v nice camera
Running Win2000 Pro with latest patches SP4 etc from MS.

Zoombrowser runs fine, but normal twain apps such as photoshop refuse to see the camera - the canon twain drivers open a window after clicking on the canon camera usb selection under import in Pshop then another window pops up and tells me it cannot find the camera - same with PSP6 and ACDC5 via twain. CanonPTP directori is in the windows\twain_32 directory fine. Also have SCSI flatbed and Canon2700 work fine under twain.

Control PAnel scannersd and cameras finds the device fine and knows its there.

Canon tell me that twain is ok as Zoombrowser works - however after much headscratching discovered duplicated dlls in zoombrowser directory so temporarily deleted the relevant Canon dir from the system twain_32 dir and Lo! the zoombrowser still wortks ( equals canon support talking a load of bull ) - zoombrowser does NOT use the drivers in system folder \twain_32!!!

Installed on a newly setup and much simpler config seperate pc - same OS version etc SAME PROBLEM!!! This PC has SCSI disks but no scanners or twain devices

Installed on a third PC same OS version etc - works OK ( no SCSI on this machine ) I am stumped.!!!!

Canon have no answers, Ive raked via my registry looking for clues, deinstalled and reinstalled ( even tho the sw was installed exactly as per theirt instructions in each of the 3 cases )

Anyone have a fix for this?? Is this a SCSI contention issue with the USB under twain

Its driving me mad - same hassle getting the 2700 to work - the canon website info for installing drivers was obviously written by someone who has never attempted to do this under win 2000!!

General Canon opinion - nice kit, flakey drivers and appalling support.

Any feedback gratefully acknowledged

TWAIN sucks, forget TWAIN.

Use a USB card reader to download pictures from memory card to computer.

BTW all cameras should work with twain 6.0 as it is a gneneric driver

And 3rd party SW should see and upload imges via system\twain_32

Thats verbatim from Canons UK supprt people who are still trying to find an answer to my problem ( 2 PCs ouut of 3 dont see the camera except via Zoombrowser )
