Well some of you may have known that my restaurant was completely flooded from the california storms on new years eve day. put in so much of my own money to get back open it was insane. Well today I got my SBA money in the 6 digits AND a whopping 5 digit tax refund from the IRS for losses and business expenses on my regular taxes. Been working like a dog to get things rolling again, so today when these checks hit my desk I went ape to crush PET-KAL once and for all.
I did it. Oh yeah.

Forums can be a strange mixture of opinions...
Everyone seems to agree that "it's the person behind the lens that counts, not the equipment". Then suddenly a thread like this emerges and everybody is jealous...
Who was it that said, "this forum is about two hobbies: photography and photography equipment"? This thread seems to focus on the second one. :-)

Peter -- better check the nikon boards first, they may have crazed collectors there as well. Be a shame if you switched over and found that you couldn't be #1 there either.
and anyways, D.K. seems to be so crazed with the need to stay ahead of you that he might buy up the nikon line just for the sake of posting about it.

I had my tax refund (both state and fed) on the 23rd of February via direct deposit. It doesn't have to take 3-4 months after the deadline if you e-file early.
Regarding the lens collection; I think we're all thoroughly jealous of a List like that, whether its a joke or not! :) I am!

I have been very cicumspect and deliberate in the avoidance of any sesquipedalisms, keeping in mind the ultimate dictum of any intercontinental discourse with our limejuice drinking cousins.....the KISS principle.
Yet, there seems to be a problem there. I tell you what....why not extend your charming little friendship with Busterboy to something more utilitarian, like you teach him Anglois, in return he shows you the ways of long lens shooting.

you'll have to hope you can beat him in the planned Duckie shoot out ;-
Ahhh....that should be as easy as a square pie....anybody can beat old Pet-Kal who has never really figured out how to shoot wildlife beyond those warped and grotesque prank shots. Like this one taken today with the 135 mm prime.....that can not possibly be considered serious bird photography, can it.

P.
I like being jealous sometimes, it's kinda the same as enjoying it vicariously:D

... High "L" Noon ...
a light mist rolls across the ground as the two glare at each other, trigger fingers poised ready to snap at an instant. when on the horizon appears a lone duck lost on his migration north following a long winter, our two protagonists jump into action swinging their cameras swiftly towards their prey. with an eye to their viewfinders and a squint in the other they hunt the skys for a glimpse of the object of their desires, frantically pawing at the zoom ring to frame it perfectly. they tense and hold their breath as they gently squeeze upon the trigger and the lens autofocus springs into life and then with a gentle sigh they pull the trigger in unison, the shutters clatter together filling the air with a sound like a thunderclap and then for a moment nothing but silence fills the air only to be broken by a wail of despair by one of our heroes, he falls to his knees accepting defeat, the camera falls from his hand and he pounds the floor screaming "why why why", on the screen of his camera were the two words that would haunt him forever more until the grave... "CF Error".

Have Fun,
Rick, you appear to have some cognitive difficulty with a simple lenscount: don't you and Dante own six L's each which would barely qualify you as an "intermediate L collector" ?
You do indeed beat him with some fine EF(S) lenses you've got, however Dante does not consider any of those worthy of mention nary a competition.
Moreover, if you persist listing FD lenses in your signature I might have to start counting my fine B&W filters as well.....if anything they are probably more valuable than that FD stuff of yours.

Cigala, your prose flows nicely and easily, the turn of phrase and suspense-building reminescent of the E.R.Burroughs' art.
There are some boys on POTN here whose computer graphics skill, although perhaps not very remarkable in itself, exceeds their prowes as a photographer.
You seem to be going in the direction of pennmanship excellence. Is that at the expense of your photography ? We can not say that yet. However, there is one senior member on POTN (a chap from Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham....I am not at the liberty of naming him here for obvious reasons) who has been following that very same route for a while. Therefore, you would not be the first.

You don't want to challenge him on B+W filters either - you'd lose!

I count eight 'L' lenses in my inventory, all of which mount on any of my DSLRs. The FD lenses are the same optical formulas as the original EF lenses, and with the Canon FD-EOS converter (I have two of them, BTW) they provide the same image quality as their EF counterparts, with a 1.26x teleconverter kick. In fact, the FD 600 f4.5 would have been named an 'L' but it was introduced before Canon introduced the 'L' designation (on the 300 f2.8 and 500 f4.5 as I recall). So maybe I actually have nine.
So what's next, comparing date codes?

Yeah - what he said!
Actually, I don't recall the 400 f4.5 coming over as an EF lens, but the quality is certainly there. But the 200 f2.8 certainly transferred over as an 'L'. So make that ten. :)
And as soon as B&H gets a 35 f1.4L in stock for more than a couple hours, it will probably rise by one more. :) :)

Are you kidding? This is an addiction. The craving has slowed down, but it is still there:
EF 35 f1.4L
FD 800 f5.6L
FD 400 f2.8L
EF 200 f1.8L
Then, once I get there, there will be the 'need' to upgrade all of that fine FD glass to EF for the autofocus and IS - it is never ending. . .
But, I am pleased with my kit. :) :)
