Well I am new and learning one thing for now the hard way. I took my G2 to a Sporting Clays Shooting event today at Cherokee Rose and shot 173 frames in AUTO. I checked out the properties on the dark shots and was shocked when I seen ("Flash Off") in the list. I had pressed the Flash button accidently. I have read the manual but was under the impresion that when in auto mode the camera decided if the flash was needed. I had no idea I could over-ride it. Ouch! If I shot anyone in the shade they were dark. The orange light did not blink indicating a exposure problem. I guess because of the sunny background? I guess I will be paying more attention to the display panel.
I still love this camera!!!!!!!

Another button to watch out for is the macro focus range button. I use the viewfinder most frequently and ruined a large handful of shots at a party where I was asked to record and share photos. So, not only did I not get any pics, but about 30 people know I didn't get any pics. Actually about 5 were taken before the fat finger did it's dirty work. I probably messed up the setting while checking that the first 5 shots were good. Shouldn't have checked and they probably would have all been O.K.

I am certain of being accused of telling the most boring story of my life, but here goes.
It was a dark and stormy night.... Oh, wrong story.
While shooting indoor party pictures in the "P" mode, I paused to check the first few pictures by switching the camera to playback mode. I was satisfied with the pictures, so I returned to record to continue to shoot.
After doing this, I must have accidentally pushed the macro focus button because from that point on, all the pictures were recorded in the MF mode. I caught the problem at the end of the party, but it was too late.
Good news, we recovered from the problem with counseling from our parish priest, and lived happily ever after.
Joking aside, this has happened to me twice now, and I am wishing it was not so easy to enter a MF mode. Good news, is that after 3 months with the camera, it is still my first choice in this price/performance range. If I were to upgrade, it would be to a D30, but at this time, I am going to wait and see what Canon produces as the D30 replacement.
