Picture shot at Saint Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal. I'm surprised it turned out so well. Looks like Heaven's back door or something...

What could I do to make it better looking? Does the contrasts look OK to you? Feel free to edit if you want to.

Thanks all! :)

Heaven's back door- interesting thought. I really like the shot. The light bleeding through the center of the gate at top and bottom is really cool. I think the contrast is good as is. You can try to bring a little detail out of the surrounding brickwork, but this might take the focus away from the door itself. Try some different edits and post them- it will be fun!

Thanks! :)

After a few tests, I came out with this: Hue and saturation + Levels adjustements. (http://www.jeece.net/photo/IMG_0796-4.jpg)

Also a black and white conversion using Lab's Luminosity layer: Still need some tweaks (http://www.jeece.net/photo/IMG_0796-3.jpg) though, I don't know if it'd be possible to achieve a good result.

Gotta leave for supper with the in-laws now. ;)

Beautiful shot! And I love your description (Heaven's Back Door). Thanks for sharing this!

Jeece, interesting shot. When I first looked at it, I thought the door was only half as big as it apparently is and that the bottom half was a reflection. That was because the tiles on the lower part of the door, particularly the lower left, don't show the lines between them as much as the ones on top. Nice shot.

The hue-sat & levels adjustment version is a good improvement- I like it Jeece.

I played with the levels a bit, removed some color noise, bumped the sat a bit and lightly sharpened. What ya think?

Thanks all for the feedback. If ya got any tips or things I could/should improve in future shots like this (or what you would have done), go ahead. ;) PP can do miracles, but nothing's more self gratifying than doing it "mostly" right straight out of the memory card.

I really like your version, dharris. I love how the tones and colors turned out - but maybe a little bit too sharpened to my taste. But hey, I can't complain - you did it totally free on your time! ;)

As for noise, it's definitely an improvement though. Which method did you use? (internal digital imaging app "filter" or something like NeatImage?)

Thanks to your edit, I'll know what to look for when I'll tweak it again.

I'm still not used to my camera, ISO was set on Auto I think. :o Same thing with white balance, I don't yet have the habit of playing with these settings. :D

No problem. I used Fred Miranda ISOX Pro to remove the noise.

Great shot Jeece, i do have one suggestion if youll take it :) If you can create a seperate layer and blow out the white texture behind the door grill a bit and probably add some gaussian blur to make it glow- that would complete the title of heaven's back door. Alternately if you are ok with my editing it, i can give it a shot and show what i mean. Still a great shot anyhow :)
