Hi

Anyone know if it is possible to attach a Raynox or similar brand add on lens to my Canon 10D with 24-85 lens? I realise the quality will suffer but would like to find a cheap way for occasional wide angle use.

I notice some of the Raynox lenses attached to for example a G3, require the G3 to be in wide angle, macro mode. This might preclude use on a 10D.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I use a Raynox DCR-250 as a macro lens on my Sigma 28-105 f2.8-4 lens. I did needed a step down ring but the results are VERY good.

Thanks Frank, it is reassuring to know I could expect decent quality!

Hi Jon,

I use the Olympus WCON-08 on my G2 (x0.8, 55 mm diameter, originally designed for the Olympus E10P) , and it's an exceptionally fine lens giving great pictures with virtually no softening, chromatic aberration or distortions. Among wide angle converters, there are definitely quality differences. Some Raynox lenses are reported to have distortions in full wide angle.

If you want to use it on the 24-85, you should not settle for second best. Price differences should be negligible, as the lens sells for about 150$ (new). There's also another version, the WCON-08B (designed for the E20P) that sells for about 250$, but I don't know what the difference is. Maybe less vignetting on the E20P?

The converter does not require setting the G2 to Macro mode. I use it mostly in full wide angle, though :).

For comparisons of wide angle and tele converters, a very good ressource is http://kazutoku.cside21.com/G1andG2/report1_eng.htm#conv.

Best regards,
Andy
