Yep... more football. My apologies... 'Twas a fairly eventful game though... with a torrential downpour at the end just to make life interesting.

Rising to the occasion... nice bit of 'thigh tape' as well...

Football or, perhaps, volleyball?...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring007.jpg

Some good old fashioned goalmouth action...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring008.jpg

The athletics season must be upon us... a wee spot of hurdling...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring009.jpg

It can get very crowded in the six-yard box...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring001.jpg

Determination wins matches...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring002.jpg

...as does defending in depth...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring003.jpg

A little bit of dabbling with the 70-200...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring005.jpg

Some tight thwunkage...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/boring004.jpg

...and the 'nearly' image of the winning goal. My only excuse for cropping the 'keepers fingers off is that I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder due to the heavens opening ...

Thanks very much for looking.

GREAT shots Gavin! I'm not sure why you're apologizing...I love your football shots. These make me look forward to 'soccer' season here.

Any EXIF info please?

All the images still have the EXIF!

Great stuff again Gavin. Did you have rain cover ready when the downpour came or just continue shooting and trust the 1 series/L lens weather sealing?

Again you lead the way Gavin
just wondering, how many shots would you usually take during a game
and out of that how many would you regard as REAL keepers

for instance I took 327 at my game yesterday and have around 35-40 that are worth keeping, the others have some that the focus didnt hit right or a player runs across the action, or for the header shots with my 20D 5 frames a second didnt quite get the timing right for having the ball close enough ??

wow, for all of them... but especially the last... wow. Thanks Spencer...

I was 'nearly' chuffed with the last one... the ball bounced downwards off the bar behind the 'keeper (I think). However, I could hardly anything through the viewfinder. The rain was absolutely torrential and the viewfinder had completely misted up, so it was a case of just pointing the camera in the right general direction and hoping for the best (not easy at 300mm)

It was one of those days for 'keeper pics. This is the other goalie letting in the first goal of the game. He thought the ball was going wide  How wrong can you be? ;)

...and not to forget Ashley Bayes' vital penalty save against Exeter last week. Note the position of the referee's leg as he walked into the frame while the kick was being taken!

Yes, we could surely do without officials walking around ... worst thing at boxing! I keep trying to shoot the corners between rounds with my 300mm and the guy looks down and me and walks right into the near corner blocking me completely, sigh. Next time I am going to take them all prints from previous fights and ask them to stand a touch to the side part of the time when I give them the print. :-) I've had a very similar problem at American football, too ... been run over a couple of times until one of the referees came over after running me down, laughing, and said, "Stand on the side of me away from the direction of the offense." D'oh! Well, I never claimed to be very bright. That last is a stunner, leg or not.

Brilliant as always! Please continue to share. I know that I'm going to see excellent football shots when you post. For me, I get the opportunity to learn about what works- composition, exposure, lens choice- just make sure you keep the exif data attached to the files. Keep 'em coming.

Question- do you ever have a chance to put the camera down and enjoy the games? ;)
