Lensmate sells both 52mm and 58mm Hoya close-up sets. Other people may own close-up sets in other brands. Since 52mm set is cheapter, do you guys use 52mm sets if you have have both 52 and 58mm adapters? Does anyone think 52mm close-up set may produce lower quality than 58mm sets? Why Canon design it adapter in 58mm instead of 52mm?

Thanks.

hello,
Since i have a 58mm conversion adaper i had to use a step down ring to shoot with my 52mm filters.
there doesnt seem to be any difference. Ive been using a red 52mm filter and a 58mm. i did not notice anything other than the same focusing problem ive always had. Look for my red filter experiment thread a few days back. A lot of peeps posted great information on that thread.

good luck

i used a 52mm star filter on this pic,. Because i have a 58mm conversion lens adapter, i had to use a 58 to 52mm step down ring.

I use 58mm to match the LA-DC58B adapter. I see no reason to use any other size.

An "expert" in a local camera shop told me last week that the Canon 250D close up lens is made specially to match the G5 in camera lenses and he didn't recommend using third party close up sets due to focusing problems and other aberrations. He said that was the main reason to stick with products from your camera manufacturer. He had no reason to BS me, so this is something I want to look deeper into.

OT, I've tried cleaning my Hoya UV filter with Kodak lens cleaner, dish soap and water, breathing on it and wiping it, etc. Whatever I do, there are always funny wipe traces. Anybody have any suggestions?
