College invitational track & field meet at Souther Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut. First time out for me for this type of event. So many opportunities for good shots! I caught only a portion of the meet. These pics were all captured with a Canon 1DMKII and 70-200/f2.8. Weather varied from hazy sun to overcast to rain. EXIF embedded.

Woody -- Great stuff! #4 is my favorite -- superb action, excellent DoF and perfect framing. #1 is good but cropped a bit tight IMO -- if you've got her arms and left hand in the original you might want to see what a crop just outside them looks like. Thanks for sharing!

I really like the tight crops in these shots. I also shot some track & field this weekend and find my images lacking in comparison to yours. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments.
#1 is straight from the camera w/o cropping. It was one of my first shots of the day and I was still trying to find a good position, proper exposure settings, degree of zoom, etc. It's shot at 200mm, 1/1600 sec, f/3.5, iso 200. It required minimal post-processing and shows off the capabilities of the lens. The lighting was morning hazy sun - thus no harsh shadows. If I shot it again, I'd get those elbows and hands in the frame.

Did you crop in camera or in pp Thanks for looking at the shots. That series from 2004 at PBase was shot with a 70-200 f/4 lens on a Canon 10D. Honestly, I debated a long time before including the image you mentioned. It is was way OOF. The 10D focusing system couldn't keep up once the runner got close. But I loved the expression on the runner's face and thought maybe it would carry the shot. Actually, I still do! But I take your point.
I try to crop in camera but usually crop further in PP. All but the first shot in the above 5 pics have some additional cropping. The New Haven Road Race shots have minimal PP cropping.
