After a few weeks with the new G5, my opinion is "What a great camera!".
The only thing they need to improve is the misleading battery indicator. The indicator dropped off way too fast for comfort!! When it start blinking, it's already too late. Well, I purchased a second battery right away and keep the backup fully charged at all time.

Got to agree wholeheartedly - just got back grom a 6 day stay in Paris. The battery indicator was reading full right up to the 6th day when it dropped like a stone - any future firmware upgrade should incorporate a fix for this! (Hint hint Canon!)

Crappy battery indicators or complete lack of there of (S-series) is a "feature" of Canon digicams, so embrace it and keep worshiping Canon as you should be right now!
That is Nº2 most annoying aspect of the G-3/5, Nº1 is the nearly useless OVF.

Well, I shouldn’t complain! For $720, my G5 that came with the following:
World-class lens (F2.0 zoom 35mm –140mm Equiv!!!) How much will that lens cost in the SLR world especially for an F 2.0 lens! Just look at the price tags of the Canon EF zoom lens! You cannot even buy one lens with $720. Came with one of the best rechargeable camera batteries available. Unlimited film! No dark room and development cost. Tons of software out there for advanced creative ideas. Half the size of an average SLR; smaller gadget bag!!!
One happy Canon Fan!
