Does this Kill FLASH for good?
Active-X Activation (http://www.baekdal.com/articles/Technology/microsoft-ie-activex-update/)
If you are a Flash user, what do you plan to do about this? Nothing? Recreate your site without Flash?
Thanks EOLAS!

Could not tell if this affects browsers like Safari or FireFox.
If it does not, the choice is simple..... nix Explorer.

I believe it effects all browsers, but even if it doesn't Isn't it something like 98% of users still use IE? I don't think its as simple as just nixing Explorer, unless you are willing to give up that large of a possible audience. I'm not.

But...so many photography sites do use flash. What a waste. I would think that Adobe(macromedia) should be furious about this. Many folks will be dropping flash as fast as they are able to build something comparable in html. People who need their websites for business aren't going to wait around for an easy fix. Of those who drop flash, there will probably be a high percentage who never return to it.

a sign? A sign that this really isn't that big of a deal? Maybe. However, I personally know several people who've already re-designed their sites with zero flash and I doubt seriously that they'll re-re-design if/when the situation is alleviated somehow. They are simply done with Flash.
So, those of you on this board who use Flash on your site: What do you plan for your site?

More often than not, with large corporations that have millions of dollars invested in retainers for lawyers, deafening silence means that;
1. There is a back-door solution/agreement being made.
or
2. A can o-whoop-ass is about to be opened.
The statement regarding that Adobe should be furious backs up my thesis. ;)

The workaround for this is simple - All that is needed is a few lines of javascript to load rather than using the embed tags in html, and microsoft themselves have published the solution here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/dhtml/overview/activating_activex.asp). It only affects IE. Regardless I am positive the next update of Flash will automatically do that for you. If you are not java script savy in the meantime check out Flash object (http://blog.deconcept.com/flashobject/) which does everything for you.
If you have a site entirely in Flash and do absolutely nothing, the user will simply have to click once to active the control and start using the site as normal. Hardly a big deal imo, and I very much doubt the end of Flash. Besides this change affects all embedded content and objects like movies, applets etc and obviously you cannot simply rewrite these.

It's Flash, who cares? ;)
Seriously though, Flash, when used properly and with restraint is good. Problem is most people don't use it with restraint and end up with painfully slow and uninteresting sites, full of vain effects.
..that' my $.005. :)
