wiwa is it possible to upgrade to OSX? Yer eMac is a g4 and OSX is optimized for the G4 processor. All of Canons software for Mac OSX : "image capture", "remote capture", ect work beautifully on my TiPowerbook and my 1gz Powermac g4. And Canon uses Apples Quicktime technology for making the little movies on your G3. With Quicktime on the eMac you just import the movies right into it. Quicktime player is better than Canons included software for this. iMovie is also included with OSX and now you have a full blown video editing suite, I'm talking soundtracks, transitions, special effects too. Plus OSX supports PTP(picture transfer protocol) Not to mention iPhoto 2(with iPhoto you can assemble and build a photo album from Apple, printed on acid-free glossy paper and bound in a linen hardback cover that comes in three different colors, its actually a coffee table type book. Very nice way reasonably priced man they make great gifts and people are blown away when you show it to them. Plus all of the software automatically recognizes the Canon G3. There are no drivers to load! Jaguar(OS 10.2 sells for $129.00). Your Mac is designed from the ground up to do video, music, graphics and photography. The thing is everyone like Canon has developed great software for OSX to take advantage of the Macintoshs superior capabilities for this kind of work. OSX installs on top of OS9 so you can use both and you won't be giving up any of your OS9 apps. It really is worth it.

wiwa,
Several things could be going on here:
1. Did you install the USB Twain extention (not sure the of the exact name on the Canon Solutions CD)? That is the only thing I can think off, but it should have been installed with the software by default. Browse the CD, you will see it and reinstall the extension and see if that helps. It should also allow you to mount the G3 on the desktop as a normal drive and allow you to import through Iview MP etc., I think.
2. Try downloading through Canon File Viewer Utility (same app thats used to conver RAW files) instead of the Image Viewer.
3. Are you connecting the G3 through a USB hub? This could be causing a conflict.
4. Download latest version of the software from Canon's website and see if that solves the problem. Maybe the CD contains an older version that is causing problems with the eMac.
5. Uprading to OS X may not be such a bad idea (it should have come installed on your eMac anyways). No need to install anything and absolutely no need to deal with extensions, which is a blessing. iPhoto/Image Capture.app support the G3 out of the box.
Hope this helps.
