I'm going to be shooting a baseball game tomorrow w/ my G6 for the school newspaper at around 4 pm. I was wondering, what is the best aperture to use w/ a shutter speed of 1/2000? I was thinking of ranging my shutter in that area. I want to try to get the ball in the picture as best i can, that's why i'm using this speed. And another question, what would be a good white balance setting to use also? Thanks!

I don't know if your camera is going to have an aperture wide enough to shoot 1/2000 indoors and not be extremely underexposed. If it can go wide enough, just shoot shutter priority at 1/2000 and let the camera handle the aperture.
Also, you might want to use a white or grey card and do a custom white balance.

If you have selected your shutter speed, then the aperture is determined by the available light and the ISO... so it all really depends on how you want them to look. To get something that fast, you will probably need f5.6 or wider even in good light. If your lens isn't fast enough, wind the ISO up as far as you feel comfortable to get the speed you need. I would personally run Av, and select the aperture i wanted, then the ISO, and then the camera will give you the fastest shutter speed possible with the amount of light you have.
As for WB, it is too hard to say. You can use a white/grey card as previously menioned, or shoot RAW and AWB then you can just worry about getting the shots and mess with the WB later.

There's really no answer to this without metering the scene you're trying to shoot.
That being said, the best aperture to use is the one that creates "the best" (subjective) DOF for a given scene while still providing proper exposure.

Yeah, you basically have to learn what shutter speed and aperture are, and how they relate to your shooting. If your asking us this question, you obviously have some confusion. I think you want the opposite way around. Choose a sharp aperture (6.3-8 is safe on most lens) and let the camera choose the shutter speed. If you have white, underexpose by a stop(ish).

Put your G6 in the TV mode, choose your shutter speed, and let the camera figure the aperture out. At 4pm in PA, there should be decent light, so you should be OK. If not, choose a slightly slower shutter speed or higher ISO.
Use auto WB. You paid for it. It works great. Use it!
