I just picked up my Canon 10D (refurb) and a Canon EF70-200 F/4 L tonight from my local retailer. Now, I am not a photographer, but hope to be shortly. I figured if I am going to get started, why not start with something good. I am not an idiot though, I got the basics. I hope this message board can be as helpful to me as it looks to be for others. I will be asking lots of questions.

Thanks in advance...

Everyone was a rookie at one time or another. It's always nice to welcome a new face into the world of photography. Ask away and you will be greeted with many answers and hopefulyl one that will actually answer your question! ;)

It's a pretty good group here...

yes... we are "pretty good" not all of us, I will usualy give you a sarcastic answer... but, oh well thats me.

You will love the camera, let me just give you some advice: play... shoot many pictures and many settings to learn.

Suggestions:
(1) If you think you have a specific question, re-read the owners manual. The answer may be hidden there. Somebody may have an answer for you, like "read page 100 at the bottom".
(2) If you think you are having trouble getting a specific shot, then post your question here. Try to be as specific as possible. State that you have a Canon 10D, state the mode of operation, etc.
(3) Go to your friendly camera store and buy a good photography book by one of the big-name photographers who does the style of photography that you intend to do. Read it and then re-read it every two months. Try to reproduce the kind of shots that you see there that you like.
(4) Read this forum for more inspiration.
