I called Roberts Imaging today because I was finally going to pick up a 30D. I had heard that they had the best price and when I called they were out of stock and didn't expect any more for about 2-3 weeks. They were selling the new 30D's for $1249.00 which I believe is the best price I've seen. They are selling 20D's for 1149.00. Its a no brainer for $100 more dollars....but a bummer they are out right now.

My local camera store here in Alberta is out of stock and the next three due in are already spoken for. I bought one this morning from a dealer in Ontario and got the last one he had in stock also. I paid $1252.00 plus shipping.

I saw a thread over at dpreview where B&H is pricematching it....from 2 different people. Healthy competition is wonderful!

By the way, I called Roberts last week and they quoted me a price of $1050 on the ef-s 17-55. Talked to Dawn and she indicated that the $1249 was pretty much "set in stone".

I bought mine from Roberts, it's scheduled to arrive here tomorrow. Paid $1349 for the 30d w/18-55 kit lens, because that's all they had in stock.

That is a fine introductory price. I paid $1339.94 from Canoga which I thought was good.

On curency conversion US1250 is Aussie$1770, with import tax and fees of about 300 here, it comes within 200 of the shop price here. Our currency has gone down against the US dollar so far this year.

Anyway, point is the Roberts new price is great, but for a foreigner its no biggie because of warranty issues. But for used units, the US market is "it". Maybe I'll get a 2nd body (a "pre-loved" unit) towards christmas, so I'm watching prices. OTOH I may get a "pre-loved" 5D...

I just ordered one from dell. I could only talk them down $20.00 plus free shipping from the original $1,399.00 price tag. They said that the item will be shipped NLT April 5th.

I guess I should have went somewhere else.

Roberts is very good. They are an authorized Canon Retailer. My wife is from Indy and they have been in business for years. They have a very good reputation. I will probably just have my brother in law walk in and pick it up. Lot's of people on this forum have bought from them.

I agree with JBF as to Roberts being legit. I've only dealt with them on a canceled order in the past but very good customer service. As for that Canoga Camera is the tops in my book right now.

I called B&H and they are "emphatically" not matching the price at Roberts. I called B&H this morning after reading this post and they assured me the price there was $1,399.00. They were aware of this post and had received many phone calls today asking for the $1,249.00 price and they surely aren't giving it, or I would have had one.

but B&H is selling it for $1349 using the PSMAR code on their web site. Just put that code in the Search Box and hit the Enter Key - from there select Canon for the discounted pricing.

Just called dell and the promotion is no longer valid. Crappy way to run a business. Start a promotion this morning on 4/4/06 and then cancel the promotion the very same day. It said good from 4/4 to 4/6. A customer service online guy just told me then severed communication with me, probably paying by the minute on internet service in India.

In my haste to share the info I made the mistake of not verify the information I was trying to share. With that thought in mind please note the following:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1019&thread=17877230

Please also note, as mentioned in a previous thread, that by utilizing the code the camera could be had for less than their "empatic" suggested retail price of $1399.00 at B&H. Furthermore, my intent is not to create discord in this forum but rather to pass on worthwhile information. In a situation such as this an individual needs to disimilate the information based on its own merit.

jd

A coworker and I were going to order 2 from Dell today...had the coupon working and everything was a go. Then up popped the $86 in tax. Yea, right...I bet they have a pipeline to Topeka. Am I being facetious? Guess I am one of the few (or many) who are always trying to save a buck. Anyway, we decided to go with Roberts as an altenative and gave them a call and they said that they wouldn't have any for at least 2 weeks. They also quoted us a nice price on the 24-105 ($1095.00).

If we stayed with Dell we would of saved $20 but we both developed a nasty taste on our palate so unless something comes up in the next few days we will probably go with Roberts.

regards,

jd

I ordered a 30D this morning from Dell with the 15% discount and received a confirmation this evening that the Camera shipped. The camera is coming via DHL with their site listing a delivery date of Friday, 4/7.
I ordered a Black Rebel XT last year at 20% off and had no problems, hopefully the same will happen this time around.

Maybe it's Dan's reject... or other returned cam.
For your sake... I hope not.
Pay close attention up front and prepare for a return if you notice anything wrong. Run it over REALLY good and fast.

I suppose anyone can have a bad experience with any store, but I'm definitely on the Roberts bandwagon too. About 10 years ago I used to deal with them strictly on a mail order basis, never had a problem, always competitive prices. When I decided to take up photography again as a hobby, I called them to purchase my Rebel XT, they still remembered me as if I had still been buying supplies in a large quantity on a regular basis. I know dozens of professional photographers who swear by them as well.

Have you tried Onecall, which matches any published price. Just give the rep the website, and they will match the price. I got it via Onecall.com.

Well, Looks like i'm gonna be in backorder hell with dell. (hey that rymes) Got an email today saying it is now backordered. Here is the message.

"Dear Valued Customer,
We have reviewed your order. Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay with your order 905660*** and will not be able to ship this order and any associated orders until on or before 04-13-2006.
· You will receive an Order Shipped email when this order has shipped. "

So I got on a chat with a rep and he took the overnight shipping charges off. If it gets delayed again I am gonna call them back and try to get and additional discount.

I also wanted to say that after ordering the camera I was on the phone with my Large Corporate Account Rep. and asked what kind of price he could get for me. He quoted me somewhere around $1250. Then I told him what I bought it for and he almost ****. He said that was even lower than what he could buy it for.
