Most probably know this, but for those who don't...
If you want to get quicker shots, or you know that your subject will stay at the same distance from you, I find it usefull to press the manualy focus button while holding the shutter release button half way. Pressing the shutter release half way will cause it to autofocus, then pressing manual focus will set the manual focus to whatever the camera is set to at that time. As you know, manual focus drastically reduces shutter lag.
