I prefer the red also. The merger of the bottom berry bothers me.

IMHO, if you're going to leave out color, you're doing it to stress shades of grey and the structure of the picture. If you're going to include color, it's because color has a purpose in the picture.

Here, we have vibrant red berries. They have some damage to them but that is not noticeable in their red splendor. The white of the snow gives a good contrast to the berries. Bokeh tells me the berries are the subject.

The B&W photo shows the berries as dark fruit. So dark that it is almost black. The damage, no biggie in the color photo, looks to be significant in the black berries. Almost as if the berries have suffered some sort of serious damage or rot (indicated by their black color). The snow contrasts the berries, but only to illustrate their blackness (and push us further into a perception of bad fruit).

Keep the color or brighten the dark B&W berries to a softer shade of grey (maybe).

The colour version is the best. The brown/white/red contrast is nice.

Hope you don't mind. I figure why not go for both b&w and colour..... I'm still learning how to do this....

I like the red on black + white, it brings out even more the amazing color of the berries. Just my opinion :)

Thank you all for the replies.

Cleo, I like the changes you made to the picture, I am sure it would look great with the full resolution pic also.

Cheers :)

Red. I prefer it not with selective colouring as the background is fairly neutral except for a few other berries. But then again, I rarely see a selective colouring I like. :)
