Chuck's '54 Ford Crestline Sunliner has a 289 motor punched out to 302 & it has the 302 heads, too. C-4 trans, 3.30 rear end. He bought it in 2001 & finished it in 2002. The color is Ferarri Red" & Crestline was the name of the body style where Sunliner means it's a convertible.

wow
thats a beautiful car and shots Frank

the colour looks really good
probably because of the black contrast and your 'take'
53 is on the reg. plate on the front of the car in the first shot
has that anything to do with anything ?

the inside looks really well too
I see old music tapes in there of the big band 'ready to go ' era?

really beautiful shots

in states where front license plates aren't mandatory and the old cars still have their original plate, owners sometimes like to put the original plate on the front, if they have an updated one on the rear.

nice shots again, love the "framing" also. I think the title should say "warning bad @$$ car" man what I would do to own one these, especially in this neck of the woods!

has that anything to do with anything ? The 53 is just part of the registration ID. The key is the tiny '54 at the top right corner of the plate, Marie. See the tiny 19 at the top left? owners sometimes like to put the original plate on the front, if they have an updated one on the rear.
+ Michigan has done a nice thing in that you can register the old plates for a classic & use them all the time. I see old music tapes in there of the big band 'ready to go ' era? My favorite, but sadly there weren't many on 8-track, even in the late '60s. All we had in '54 was AM radio & if we were very lucky, there was a local station that played popular songs between 7:30 & 9PM each night! When we were extremly lucky, we could get the atmospheric bounce from Randy's Record Shop in Tenessee at 1AM on Saturday night. :D

Well if you liked that one Andy, what about this one? ;) '53 Ford Sunliner

Thanks for the comments everyone!

We could get WLS out of New Orleans at night.
Ahh... the good ole days.
I guess. :)

We could get WLS out of New Orleans at night. Were they still playing the "White Rose" commercials? Those were a real hoot & I still remember the lyrics! I loved the "personal" testimonials, too :D

I understand better now

sounds good

I have most of the big bands on tapes
years ago , if I wasn't recording from the radio ....(some programmes played the old bands every week for about an hour and I had my blanks at the ready, got some lovely old recordings) I bought many of them otherwise

it's difficult to buy a tape of recordings today
I expect soon the tape recording machines will be gone also
so there will be no call for any tapes

I loved them for recording anything I wanted to keep from radio programmes of interest , not just music

but, they are still around today
and hopefully will be for a long time

I buy the CD's whenever I see them
amazing the sound quality achieved especially on the very old recordings rehashed
those big bands played beautiful music

thanks again both ..RadAl and Frank

thanks a lot
it was the difference in Frank's '54 in the title and the '53 on the plate which had me a little confused
I wondered were they supposed to be one and the same
that the reg was the year of the car and a tiny mistake was somewhere
but I get it now
thanks again

I used to tape from the radio too, 'till they got the cute idea of talking over the intro which just spoiled it for me. (Maybe that's why they did it?) ;) I'm not playing those as i'm afraid that the age of the tape will cause them to shed oxide the next time I play them & I'd like to transfer them "someday when (if ever) I have time".

I copied some of my old 33s to CD also as I'd grown up with those versions & I liked them better than the newer versions on available CDs. Not many copied as they were well worn & it took hours of editing to remove the "clicks & pops" from the file.

I agree with you
I used to have to wipe flour or ' something while cooking ' off my hands so as to stop the tape when the talk started
and start it again
when the music started
kind of boshes things up a bit:lol:

and was a bit of a problem
took a lot of time

unless I left the tape on to finish off the whole programme

sometimes the talk was interesting to keep
but rarely

I'm not playing those as i'm afraid that the age of the tape will cause them to shed oxide the next time I play them & I'd like to transfer them "someday when (if ever) I have time".

I heard something about that happening too especially when I first bought a great pioneer system many years ago .
I didn't want to damage it that way

also I agree here
the newer recordings of some singers are never ever as good as the old
I often wonder why they do that and put the newer versions up on sale

I bring them back to the store if I don't like the sound and say I wanted the old version which I had thought it was, as the original artist was named on the cover (which I always look for )
but then bring it home and it's a terrible (modern) version of the 'old'

it just never seems to work
(the original had the 'magic' which we fell for in the first place)

a good example is the platters

their new CD (with all the old songs) is just awful
I brought it back
(I have the old tapes which I had bought many years ago)

when buying the CD I had thought it was their rendering of all their old songs .. put on CD
they were the same songs
but jazzed up
which I didn't want

some of the old vinyl records get a little twisted over the years
I have the pioneer record player in the attic at the moment

thanks Frank

You should clean the heads every so often as the oxide can clog them. Just some alcohol (not rubbing alcohol) on a Q-tip will usually do it. a good example is the platters
I LOVE them & play them a lot! Back then you actually had body contact with the person you were dancing with! Kids today don't know what their missing! some of the old vinyl records get a little twisted over the years If you store them on edge, it helps avoid that. I have the pioneer record player in the attic at the moment The heat might cause the lubricant to flow away from where it needs to be. If you won't store your cat up there... http://photo.klein-jensen.dk/smilies/teeth.gif

Looks like we just hijacked my own thread! http://photo.klein-jensen.dk/smilies/rotfl.gif I appreciate all bumps, on topic or not!

I think I heard there are other groups calling themselves the Platters
not sure how that can be , but maybe they are younger versions of the original and the music company decided to throw in one of the older Platters mixed with the new.
to justify keeping the name alive

maybe why I didn't like the newer recordings

no cat,
maybe a mouse

I have none of the old records
good advice you give
my sister used have a few
they never played right because of the central heating
she had them close to it

but I never thought of the heat in the attic in the summer
regards my pioneer system
it is up there (double tape deck and all)

I bought a cheaper smaller system which does for now ( in the sitting room)
as the old one (Pioneer) did not have a way for playing CD's

also have a CD player/radio/tape deck in the kitchen
and one in the bedroom
another in here too
:eyes

Fortunately, we have also personally come in contact with many of those artists and groups listed on the yet incomplete roster page, and many more! Keep tuned into this page for further information and photographs!

PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU KNOW OF *ANY* OTHERS THAT HAVE TIES TO ANY PLATTERS GROUPS!! "

my brother says the original platters never registered their name
the reason why there were so many platters around later

I had no idea that there were so many! I'll have to be careful if I ever have to replace my "Best of..." CD.
Thanks, Marie!
