since im using my 50mm for portrait, can anyone recommend me a good portrait lens to replace my 50mm? one thing my 50mm bothers me most is the focusing is errectic and slow. I need something fast and better focusing then the 50mm. also whats the best way to eliminate CA?

from reading numerous threads over the months, i gather that a lot of people with the 50mm 1.8 upgrade to the 50mm 1.4.

Money permitting, that would probably be my choice.

The next lens that's much better is probably the 50mm f1.4 or the 85mm 1.8. I personally would go with the 85mm 1.8 (personal preference). These two lens are significantly more expensive than the one you have.

Are you using a FF or crop camera? Do you want an increase in focal range? The 50, 60, 85, 100 and 135 are all good portrait ranges depending on the camera used. Do you want a prime or a zoom? Have you considered the 50 1.4 alternative?
