G3 Makes Noise When Focusing...

I know with my other G3 the camera would make a noise when zooming but I never noticed any sounds when the camera was trying to focus.

The one I got last week makes kind of a sizzling noise, almost like a wire that is shorting out would make.

Other than the noise it seems to focus just fine, fairly quick and smooth and once its in focus the noise stops. It does it whether its on continuous or single.

Does this sound like something serious (I think it does) or do some of your G3's make the same sound?

One other question.... How is Canons service dept, how long does it take to fix the Camera and get it back?
I bought it online and I was wondering if it would be quicker to send to Canon where I can have an expert look at it rather than ship it back to the store.

mine it does make a ratchet type sound but i think its on all. to me it sounds like the gears and mechanism just working.

dont know what the sizzling sound is. well about canon. is the camera you bought online a usa original? are their many out their you have to return to the store you bought it cause canon wount accept it. do you have a warranty card that comes with the camera?

Yes it is a USA camera, not black market and I also have the warrenty card so I shouldn't have any problems with the service dept.
My other one would make a noise when I would zoom in or out, ya could hear the gears working, but I never noticed any noise when it was trying to focus.

The sizzle sound is normal we all have it when trying to focus, but I think another term / word would best describe it.

That noise is normal and is the result of the G3's Continuous Focus feature. Changing this option to Single under the Function menu will eliminate this noise and the camera will only lock focus when you press the shutter button halfway.

Like I stated above, it does it whether its on continuous or single mode.
I'm sure thats its gonna make some kind of noise while focusing but this seems to be a little louder than it should be.
I can hold the camera out in front of me while viewing the LCD and still hear it good.
After using the camera more since my original post everything seems to work just fine so I guess I will just wait and see if anything messes up, hopefully it wont, I hate being without a camera :(
