I'm just back from holiday in Scotland and took many many shots of castles.
This one interests me - I hate to think that this is what old age will mean for me. I watched as this old woman was pushed in her wheelchair to this position and left to look at the castle. She was utterly alone when I went into the castle and still alone when I came out - 40 minutes later.

If you'd like to see the whole gallery of Caerlaverlock Castle - which is about 9 miles south of Dumfries - click here:

thanks, I took a look at your pictures of this unusual castle damian
these windows (url above) look very different then what we usually see in these places.
and so many of them so close together
the lady looks as though she is painting.....
but not so or you would have said.
I suppose its better she was brought out at all rather then be left at home ,
if a couple also had to get out sometime and also needed a break.
people can be quite happy on their own like it for a while. everyone needs their space.
they may be all jammed together other times back at their house.
who knows the whole story anywhere
so long as she wasn't mugged there
(for her wheelchair )
:)
lovely shot and view all over
she adds to it too for the photograph
regards
marie

Fantastic!
I've never been to Europe,. so I have yet to experience the childhood dream of seeing a real Castle!
Seige engines of this type ( counter balanced weight and the "sling" style basket for the payload) are often called "Trebuchet",... someone else will have to translate,. I assume it is French?
A more modern name that is often used is "Fling",.. a less romantic but somewhat apt name to be sure.

You must come - I visited at least 8 castles in Scotland (all within about 50 miles of eachother).
I was telling my son how they used the seige engine and often would throw a diseased animal carcass into the castle - when I turned round I had an audience! Still we managed (me, my son and 4 kids) to launch a raid on the castle! :o)

Some wonderful images Damian. I like this one of the castle in particular. If that's what old age has in store for me, so long as I can still press the shutter and see through the viewfinder, I guess it won't be too bad!!

Great shot Damian. The castle is lovely and the grass so green. There is something special about the woman in the wheel chair that adds a whole new dimension to this photo, I can't really explain it, guess it's more a feeling you get when you see the size of the castle in a very stark setting and then this lonely women in a wheel chair. Very powerful photo.
