This is a novice question about PS.
How do I take the colour out of a shot and leave something in colour. For example - if I want to alter a photo of my daughter so that she is in colour and the background in B&W?
I have tried and end up with all in B&W.

open your pic
on your layers panel select the image and right click
now duplicate your layer. you should have 2 layers of the exact image. select your top image and
go to image >> adjust >> color mixer
and choose monochrome.
You can adjust the r g b settings of your pic to your liking
your top layer image should be b&w. with the top layer selected, choose the eraser tool and erase where you want color to appear.
that should help
