This is my first try at getting Mars in the camera...
I just uploaded a picture (one of about 50) of Mars I took last night. I only used the Canon G3 at full zoom with the Canon Telephoto Conversion Lens attached. Below is the EXIF:
Date/Time: 2003:08:19 22:32:14
Shutter: 1/5
Aperture: 3.2
ISO: 50
Manual Focus set to infinity.

A friend has my telescope adapter kit, which I should have for this weekend so that I can get even closer images. This one, however, is not bad.

Yeah, it did come up but after a long delay and after I dropped the note. When I saw the red X I assumed something was amiss. Sorry.
That's pretty good size for Mars. Interested to see what you get with the scope.
I was driving in the mountains during the last full moon on a misty night. It was so beautiful I had to stop and shoot it. After processing, moon, mars, mountains and mist came out beautiful.

Glad to learn that I'm not the one one here who's been photographing Mars, Deckyon. Over the past week, I've made about 120 still images and a number of 10-15 sec. AVIs of the red planet. (Haven't put together a website for them yet. But here's one I took the other night.)

Technical details include: SteadyPix, Meade ETX-90EC, Bogen 3036 tripod, 25mm Televue plössl eyepiece w/2x Televue barlow (for around 100x magnification), and Canon G3.
Photo was taken at approx. 3am local time, Lancaster, PA, USA. Shutter speed of 1/5 sec. @ f/3.0. Lens zoomed out to 28.8mm. Manual focus on infinity. ISO 100, RAW format. Image was converted to 16-bit TIFF, cropped, sharpened slightly, then saved as a JPG.
Not all that great a Mars picture, but it's quite good considering the very modest equipment.
Then again, you didn't even use a telescope for your photo, which is all the more impressive for that reason.

Thanks for the thought Genevira. I've been busy with some other things lately and haven't quite decided where I'm going to put my pix yet (again). They'll pop up one of these days.
