Hi,

I contacted Canon to find out if my Canon Ixus V supports 1 GB CF card. They told me that it would work just fine, so I bought a Viking 1GB card.

The camera didn't have any problem formating the card but when I started to take pictures some of them got corrupted and old onces got over-written by new once.
It seems like if I start with a clean CF and take pictures, change to "play mode" all of them will look just fine. But if I turn of the camera and turn it back on some of the pictures will be corrupted.

Does anyone know if there is a problem using Viking 1GB card with canon Ixus V or is it a general problem with this camera and big memories??

This is ood behavior. I would be more likely to blame a bad card based soley on a gut reaction.

But the strange thing is that the card works without any problem in my CF-reader and in my Mp3-player. That is why I suspect the camera...

I would be inclined to think it is the card. But it might be the contacts in the camera. Try inserting and removing the card a few times.

See if the store has another 1 gig card you can test. Does it perform the same? What about a 1 gig card by another brand?

What speed is the card? If it is only x1 it may be too slow for the camera.
Have you tried filling up the card using a PC and then copying the card contents to another area on the PC and verifying the contents against the original?
Do you have any problems with any other card? If not, is the 1G card supposed to be faster? or slower? than the card that works?
How many pictures do you need to take before problems occur?

On the whole I too think it more likely to be a card than a camera problem. Can you borrow another Ixus V camera to test the card? Perhaps a shop would let you borrow one for five minutes?

Hi,

I have used the card in my MP3 player with no problem(using my CF reader to copy to the card and then the player to read it).

How can I find out how fast the card is? Can that really make a difference, should the camera make sure that everything is saved before it lets me take a new picture?

I will try to the card in another camera and also try find borrow a 1GB card.

I don't have to take that many pictures before the problem occurs, maybe 15-20 pictures (1600x1200, SF).
