I am looking to get another lens for my Rebel XT. Currently, I am mostly using the kit lens whose quality doesn't seem to be too fantastic. I see that there's a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II auto-focus lens for about $75. This is a great price for me since I'm trying to save money right now. What are people's experiences with the 50mm 1.8?

I like this lens a lot. Lightweight, fast, and sharp. I've also used this lens with extension tubes for macro work as well.
Some people don't like the focus ring, but it's not a big deal for me. I really didn't have anything to compare it to, so I just got used to it.

For what it costs, it's a great lens. The Mk I and f/1.4 are better, but also more expensive. It's quite sharp, and pretty bright. The bokeh isn't all that great stopped down and the AF leaves something to be desired... But still, for $75 it's almost a no-brainer.

You won't be sorry with the 50 1.8 trust me. And like you said it's in your price range.

Exactly. You'll love it. At the price, it's almost disposable! LOL Great lens though, super sharp.
