you should write an awesome review of this lens and see how many people get it. whenever there is a 24-70 vs. 24-105 thread, recommend this lens. that would be funny

A friend of mine has it, and it's HEAVY! Bit slow too (F stops not focus). Much better on full frame, otherwise it's not very wide. He uses it on his 5D and likes it, but he said he's been using the 24-105L F4 a lot recently.

tim, I own this lens and use it most of the time. I agree that it's a heavy lens, but don't completely agree in regards to it being slow. Let me elaborate why: aperture is f/3.5 - f/5.6 depending on the focal length, which is essentially one-stop slower at longer focal length than 24-105 f/4 loved by many. 28-300 also has the IS capability as well.

This is the second copy of this lens that I got. After getting the first one and taking some shots, I really liked the quality and how it felt, but convinced myself that I need a different set of lenses. After selling it, I got 24-70, I had a 70-200 IS before, and others as well, but I really missed the versatility of this glass and even the quality of the images it produces. I got this copy about two months ago and I really love it. The IQ is amazing, it's on my camera all the time, and I disregard the comments that it makes my 5D a point-shoot.

Often I observed that this glass receives negative opinions by folks who have never owned or tried one. Some of the negatives that are often "applicable" to this glass are "forgotten" with others: 1) heavy: you don't hear this description as often about 200mm f/1.8 or 300mm f/2.8; 2) push-pull: people adore the 100-400 with similar focusing mechanism; 3) zoom quality can't be the same. My advice: try it, you may truly find it not as sharp or be pleasantly surprised. Bigma doesn't get as much negative publicity about the zooming as 28-300 does for some reason.

Shoot, talk about a "Ode to 28-300L" :D Sorry if it comes across a bit defensive and no, I'm not the product manager for 28-300, I just really like this lens.
