Okay, so maybe this has been done before, maybe not. If so, then perhaps it's time to guage this again. I'm interested in seeing what the majority of forum members are shooting with these days. Let's try to get maximum participation in this, people!
BTW, you can pick more than one.

I LOVE my 10D. Somewhere down the line after buying studio lights, and an 85mm 1.8, then a 5D will probably come into the picture.

My new 20D is perfect for me right now. I still love my 10D, but after having the 20D for almost 4 months, the 10D seems very heavy.

I actually think it's been a very long time since we had one of these polls,. (unless I just missed one)
I do recall that the 10D was the clear winner then,. (and it was when 10D was top dog) and like now,. the 10D won over the 300D by a good deal.
Very thorough giving us multiple options. And they are all in there :)

I had a 10D until October last year, now I have a 5D.
I was on holiday in February and March and I saw a LOT of people walking around with Digital Rebels and Digital Rebel XT's. The DRebel (XT) is a very popular digital camera. It looks like the whole world has one.

Its interesting to notice that, albeit the most recent bodies, the 5D and the 30D are so high in numbers, espcially the 30D since the 5D has only one rival that has a price issue :( Same apply, in a slightly different measure, to the 1DMkIIN vs the 1DMkII...
Hmmmm... food for the brain.

So Malone, this is what you do when you are no longer defending your lenses. Keep it up. I love polls.
Maybe the next one could be lamest member (me) or what lenses do you shoot with (check all that apply). Wow that's a good idea. I have to go to bed. Take care of that for me. I think that's only about 500 or so options.
BTW, I pulled the battery on my 10D so fast after I got my 5d. I never even fooled myself in to thinking I would shoot with it again. Although I did do that crappy comparison with shots of northern Seoul.

I've had the 10D and 300D both with their respective battery grips since about 6 months after each was released. I find myself using the 300D without its grip and with the canon compact lenses 18-55 and 55-200 when I want a small lightweight kit and then the 10D with its grip and with my sigma lenses 17-35 2.8-4.0, 28-70 2.8, and 70-200 2.8 for my kids' sports. The 300D being so light, I kind of hate adding the grip to it.

Depends on what I am shooting. For my landscapes the 5D gets alot of use. When shooting wildlife it is mostly the 1DMKII or the 30D if I feel I need the 1.6 crop factor.

I don't have a DSLR YET - I have been researching the cameras for about a year and thought the 20D was for me UNTIL recently, now I am stuck between choosing a 30D or the 5D - the only thing stopping me is debt or no dept between the 30 or the 5.... I want to go for it w/ the 5D, cause if I don't it might even take longer to get it.
Any suggestions as to good dealers in the US?

You're not going to like what I have to say. Go 30D and buy great lenses. Make sure you get full frame lenses for later upgrades in camera body. Eventually there will be a camera better than the 5D for less $, but lenses are almost forever.
I get 90% of my stuff from B&H.
sapearl

Excellent advice - the bodies are so much like PC's... there is always more machine for less money, with new features and advances always being made, every 12 - 18 months, depending upon the model.
The lenses seem to be a more stable lot, holding their value and high price longer. I have a 5D but I'm sure that too will become "old hat" as the price of full frame sensors and the associated electronics drop. I hate buying the same lens twice, so to speak, so I rather pay a bit more up front to get the one that will do the job for years, regardless of the body.

Interesting that non-CANON users are here to hear us talk about our gear. :)It's not a "pick-only-one". We know we have people here who use other cameras besides their EOS DSLRs. Also there are EOS-mount DSLRs that aren't listed (the 1Ds was a late addition; some of the "Other" votes may be 1Ds users).

I'm using a 30D and 2 350D/XT's thats about it for the EOS line of gear but I do have 6 other digitals cameras also.
Welcome to the forums Threep press, if you post us a image with the exif info (camera settings used) it would make it much easier for us to give some suggestions. As for tips, read manuals, learn to understand exposure, keep elbows in and practice, practice and then when you finally get things improving, practice somemore.
I'm also all for people whom use any brand contributing. Theres always something new to learn or a different perspective on things to understand and share. Theres no real mistakes in life, just opertunities to learn.

Welcome to the forums Fatgit and Whateyesee, plenty of things to share and learn from on these forums and new blood is always good.
Whateyesee, if your budget is tight I'd go for the 30D/2nd-h 20D or maybe even the 350D/XT (it's really quite an able little camera) and put some of your budget towards glass. Bodies come and go like everyone has said, glass is where the investment begins and is almost as important in making an image as the person behind the camera. The camera body is the last/least important factor.

The clear winner here is quite obvious. If this poll is any indication, I can see why Canon took the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to the 30D. Still think it should've been called the 20Dn though. ;)

Hasselblad 500 ELM, Canon AV-1, and Kodak DC-4800 are not (even if I have them)
And I almost got a Kodak SLR/C as primary at one point, but the 1DsMkII met my needs better and then I thought about it as backup, but by then Kodak discontinued it. No point in getting a brand new discontinued camera.

No point in getting a brand new discontinued camera. For starters, the poll originally hadn't included a 1Ds, so some people with that would have entered it there. Then there are the EOS DCS 3, DCS1, D2000, and D6000. And "other" brand is a perfectly legitimate response for gauging camera usage here. We do have avowed Canon + Nikon, Leica, and others.

I had my 20D stolen and it was impractical to get another one. so I got a 30D which is a bit less annoying for my elderly eyes puis un 350D as a backup-..the little piece is genial. Canon should put some more effort to its viewfinder and nobody'd buy anything else.
Except, of course, those who need the performance of the "1" series.
then again, if there'd be a Canonet-D 1.4....

My goodness I can't believe the 30D is already at 12.5%. Either a lot of people are quick off the mark getting hold of the 30D or 30D users are voters :)

Me neither! Are they even out yet in the US...? I'm also surprised the 1dsMkII has 18 votes, I thought it'd be more like 5-8ish.:D

I have a Canon Rebel XT 350D with a battery grip, 18-55mm lens, 28-90mm lens, 90mm macro, 75-300mm lens and a 2X teleconverter. I have 2 Sandisck Ultra II cards (1GB & 2GB).
I almost got the 20D but I am a fairly small guy and I liked the smaller XT but I did add a battery grip for the feel and extra battery life since i do go out for long periods of the day taking a lot of shots
So, I like my XT a lot,

1D and D60, but since I got the 1D the D60 has been neglected (and soon to be sold). The only advantage the D60 has is longer reach with telephotos (cos of the 1.6 crop factor), and lack of amplifier noise on long exposures etc. Everything else I find the 1D beats it - even though its 4mp, it's not a normal 4mp camera, more equivalent to quality 6mp I'm finding, colours are more nicely rendered as well I'm finding.
That said, the D60 is still a good camera.

Alextain: The cameras are very similar, the transition was easy. I think the 1v has a slightly brighter viewfinder, and I replaced my 20-35 3.5-4.5 (for sale) with a 16-35 to make up for the crop.Focusing systems are about the same, I think my 1D may be a little faster and the controls are the same. Presantly my 1v is for back-up and dosen't see much use.

umm... well I know of a Pro, who she shoot for the show "24" on FOX for stills. Her comment is, and I quote "Every schmuck has a 20D".
LOL
And this quote is now validated. LOL ;)

Still enjoying 2004 vintage 300D. Dont know when I shall be able to afford an upgrade -- maybe in a couple of years time and likely for something second hand. But I can dream can't I? :)

Still a significant gap between 20D and 30D owners. However, current DR, 10D or even 20D owners could've upgraded to the 30D since this poll was first started. This is by no means conclusive. Nevertheless, it's still interesting to see how things turn out. ;)
