Okay, upon a lot of good advice I went back to these two flowers this morning. It was a bit easier today because there was more ambient light to use (less need for strobe light, which can be harsh) and because overnight the 1/2 way flower opened up. Less DOF needed. ;)
Here's the first with a black background and fully opened:

And the second, more interesting flower. I decided to add another character to the scene. It fills the frame up, but I think changes the name from "Disapointed" to "Embarassed"

Thanks again for all your excellent advice on how to improve these two flower shots. I hadn't shot any flowers in probably a full month - strange how you can sort of fall out of it.
