Good shots and nice to see some one trying somethin a bit different.
Top One.* I'd crop off the top, almost halfway to the top of the shadow.
* Where-ever there is a light-colored part of an image
at the edge of a composition and one is viewing on a pale colored background
as on Pekka's site, it's a good idea to place a thin black border
around the picture. It "holds in" the contents.
* The only thing then that would spoil the shot is that
The top of the tree shadow is missing.
If it was on your original image I'd certainly include it.

The idea is very good and has an old world look to it.
Maybe just a little too much black and dark gray in the picture.
The right side of the tree trunk is blacked out.
Maybe I'd have re-framed so the pic stops on the tree trunk not to its right.
Also the main branches on the left are rather lost in the shadows.
They should be separated from the shadows and should stand out.
Whether this can be fixed in PS I don't know.
I feel that overall the image needs brightening the way
Ansel Adams would have presented it.
Check out similar shots of his next time you go to the public library.
These are good efforts. Please keep posting more of them

Sidewalk: No drastic change in cropping, but try to get the top of the tree's shadow in the picture by recropping, shooting again with the full shadow, or edit in a graphics program.
Siding: Very nice as is, except maybe rotate point of view a smidge so we see the tree trunk shadow (if possible and still make a shot.) Could actually loose the drainspout and pipes on the left. perhaps include more of second window on right.
Very pleasing black and whites.

IMHO, I'd prefer #1 with no tree shadow. Is it possible to try that shot?

it definitely is. i just thought that the tree was so well shadowed it added to the scene.
thanks for the response

heck I'm no expert! :)
try it w/o the shadow, I think being drawn to the narrowing end of the path might be a nice effect. My eyes go right to the shadow and stay there.
just an idea.
