Hey everyone! I need to buy a bag for my 20D.

I've looked around and I like the Slingshot series. The only question is 100 vs 200. I actually went ahead and ordered the 100 but I can still cancel the order.

Right now I only have the 18-55 kit, but... I plan to get the 50mm f/1.4 and probably just one other lens. Still debating between 24-135, 200mm L or 70-200 f/4 - but it'll probably be the 200mm f/2.8L.

Oh and I might want to get a 580EX sometime later..

So could anyone please tell me whether I should pay the extra twenty dollars and go for the 200? Will I have trouble fitting those lenses in there, and what about a flash afterwards? I'd love to hear about your Slingshot configuration as well...

Prompt reply would be appreciated since I probably only have till monday to cancel or change order.

Thanks!

Go with the 200. I looked at the 100, but thought it looked much too small for my purposes. I don't have a ton of gear, but three lenses, a body, and a flash will just about fill up the main compartment, depending on how you go about it.

Especially if you're looking at the 70-200 f/4, you're going to want the larger bag.

I love my 200 -- as I've written elsewhere, these bags work best when not stuffed. If you have to cram everything in, you lose the advantage of quick and easy access.

Get the 200, it will give you room to grow.

the slingshot 100 is very small. 200 nor 70-200 will not fit for sure. Even the 200 is not a lot of room to grow. This bag works best as a second bag unless you have relatively little gear. There are several recent threads on Slingshots, do a search, I have posted several times images of a 1DmkII with 24-70 attached and 70-200, but it is pretty tight with just those 2 lenses. This bag does not do well stuffed to the gills, it is too flexible, and the one shoulder strap begins to become uncomfortable.

Alright. I just canceled my order for the 100. For now I will just have the kit lens and the camera, so the other compartments will be empty for a while, or maybe will have a sandwich or something.

Will the bag be too light and crush easily or will it stay in shape because of the padding and stuff. It maybe a while till I save up for the two lenses I want and I might not even get the flash - so will having not ENOUGH stuff be a problem?

Reviews on this thing have been stellar though and the idea sounds real cool so I'm lookin forward to getting one...

I would say you need the 200.

i will keep shape. So you can see what you might carry in the 200, let me tell you what i carry in mine. 1Dsmk2, 24-70, 35L, 2 X 550 flashes, 1 X 580 flash, 3 lumiquest soft boxes for the flashes, epson p2k, p2k extra battery, canon st-e2, memory (I am absent minded), caps, lens pen, opti cloth. No thats one heavy 200!

if you behave well...you get a grip

right now I am getting to know a 10D that i picked up pretty cheaply. You get spoiled pretty fast with a 1Dsmk2 buffer size. I slapped on a 35L and its a pretty nice combo. light and almost like nothing is hanging from the shoulder. Now I have to see if it will fit in the 200 with my 1Dsmk2. I am thinking no.

Go for the 100 is you only use this bag with a selective gear.
For instance, I have a much larger bag for storing my gear but when I go out and only need 1 or 2 lens and maybe a flash, I take my slingshot 100.
I bought this bag specificlaly for my European trip in June. I only intend to bring my 350D, 18-200, 430ex, flashcards, manuals, and a few accessories.

I'm also not sure if I want the slingshot 100 or 200-

will either bag fit an XTi with a zoom lens attached ? like the 70-300 IS or the 70-200 L ?
would I be able to fit a 50mm 1.8 AND the 18-55 kit lens in there as well?

for me, a smaller bag is better as long as I can fit my XTi with the zoom attached.

If I'm carrying a full load, the 200 can hold my 20D w/ 70-300 IS mounted, 17-85, 60, and 85, plus my 580EX.
More common is to have the 17-85 mounted, plus the two primes, either the 70-300 IS or 70-200 f/4, 580EX, and a beanbag.

I try not to carry a full load, though. The bags are better with room to move.

i picked up the 100AW for duper cheap. It is small. Makes you do some planned thinking on what to bring. I've managed to stuff a 70-300 APO DG Macro, 50 1.8 together with an XT with a 28-105 USM II. The top compartment I was able to store a 550EX. That's about it. Pretty tight and snug. Other stuff in the small pockets were batteries, CF cards and an IR Remote.

I just picked up a 200 and like it a lot. Right now i have a 350D, kit lens and 50 1.8 and will soon be picking up a 70-200 f/4 and other misc items.

i think this bag will give me room to grow and it is comfortable walking around.

Definitely the 200 if you are planning on getting two other lenses beside your current kit lens and a 580ex... especially since it's a $20 difference.

Go with the 200.
I have it and wouldn't want anything smaller. I also keep a Canon shoulder bag for overflow and items that aren't everyday. The 200 is not ungainly in size. In fact, for a back pack it is modest. You can always put less in than it will hold. What do you do if you buy one too small?

I have the 100, and while I love the small size, I sometimes wish for the 200.
The 70-300 IS barely fits in the bag at all. Mounted, it can fit, but it is a stretch on the zipper, and frankly I would not want to keep it this way. The 70-200 will definately not fit whatsoever, unless there is no body in the bag.

There's also the new 300 to consider. For me, I went with the 200 and I'm happy. I looked at the 100 but it was just too small for my liking. I tend to pack mine with as much gear as I can which explains why I wouldn't buy the 300 - far too much weight to lug around on one shoulder which defeats the purpose of the Slingshot series. My 200 holds my 20D with grip and 24-105 attached, a 580EX, Tokina 12-24, Canon 50 1.4, mini tripod, Lightsphere PJ with top, two battery chargers (for AAs and BP511), WhiBal, filters, CF cards, Lenspen etc. That's a lot of weight, although, I did carry it around all day in Hawaii last summer it wasn't a painless experience.

Thanks guys! I did end up getting the 200 a long while ago.. though the 300 seems pretty cool.

Here's a quick review for anyone else who is trying to decide: the 200 is good. though the sling action can sometimes wrinkle up your clothes, not too big of an issue. the bag is nice and roomy, and can be customized with the velcro padding things very easily.

my biggest issue is that it cant fit the 70-200 IS mounted. of course, to do so it'd have to be like HUGE (just simple geometry because the 70-200 is so long). being able to have it on my back and then pull it out without taking off is great though - its a lot more convenient to wlk around with than my toploader 75.
