Not sure, but I think that I actually managed to get a half decent shot of something! I took the advice of a few people and centred to rose, but what about the angle? On the same day I took a number of shots of flowers and plant life, but I just seemed to come back to this image....

Could somebody offer me any other tips? Am I going wrong with anything else?

Many Thanks

Simon

Nice, but the rose bud in the top left puts me off a bit as it looks a little decayed.

My cousin told me exactly the same thing, I thought he said it just to be awkward...Guess not. One of the things that attracted me to the shot was the fact that there seemed to be a contrast between the vibrant living rose and it's withering partner.... Point taken though, I do have some other images that were taken on the same day, I will post a few.

There's nothing wrong with this shot technically Simon. It is well exposed and very colourful and bright. The thing about rose picks though is that they have been done to death on places like this, so they have to be extra special to get attention. However if you are just starting out then this is a decent shot.

Martin.

I would change one thing. More of the withered rose!

See, you can't please everyone. I like the contrast between old and new, but the old facing away from the camera lessens the effect.

Thanks, I know that your ALL right in what each of you comments on, and I also realise that this type of shot must have been really over-posted. I do need practice, and experimenting with various shots is the only way(that I can see) of improving my overall photography.

Thanks guys

You need to show folks an ordinary rose in an extrordinary way.

Just a close-up of a whole rose in bright sunlight with too much background does not do it.

Try eliminating background, use the zoom instead of wide angle to eliminate distracting backgrounds. Play with manual settings so that you can use depth of field to your advantage by selecting what you want in focus and and what you do not.

I tried something if you don't mind:

Most of all, keep shooting and posting and learning!
