I am experimenting with a Power Shot S2 IS. When looking through the viewfinder it is as if there is a mesh screen (somewhat like a window screen).

Is this what the rest of you see, or have I hit a button by mistake?

The viewfinder is actually an LCD screen... you're probably seeing the individual elements of the display.

Any chance you are in Manual Focus mode?

Have you adjusted the diopter focus dial on the left side of the viewfinder?

You may be seeing "GRID LINES". They help you get an image straight. I think you can turn it on or off in the Custom Display menu. I found it in the S3 specs, so it's likely the same in your S2.
(When all else fails, read the instructions) :)

re: Grid Lines... no such animal in the S2. (per the instructions.)

Still with us, Sandrast? One other thought: under very low light, the LCD screen and the viewfinder have their gain boosted, and the image looks very "chunky" compared to normal... could this be a factor in what you are seeing?

Thanks Ross. Sorry, I didn't have the S2 specs.

No problem... I didn't know it was added to the S3. Nice to hear that it was. Thanks.

I gave up on the S2 and carried it back. Thanks for replying.
