I heard on another forum that the 70-200 2.8L (non-IS) is going out of production.
Has anyone else heard this? I forget the poster's source, but I could see Canon doing that.

it's a possibility, now that many stores are going into almost permanent backorder with the lenses (i remembering reading an article that non-IS is almost impossible to find in canada now). if they retire the 2.8 non-is and lower the price of the IS version to lets say.. $1449 or lower, i can see canon making a lot of money (and killing nikon's sports photographer market almost instantly);)

Same here, that would be pretty dissapointing.

It seems that many people have, or only consider the non IS, because of the IS's price. As Basroil pointed out a slight lowering of the IS price and Canon will make a killing reaping back any lost margin by volume.

I hope they lower the price of the IS 2.8 because that was the only reason why I didn't pick one up...I would be willing to pay $1,400 for it...

Same here I guess... $1350 would certainly get me jumping! I read a review over at FM a while ago though that showed the non IS version to be sharper...
