View Full Version : Printing a page of thumbnails for review?

I have a bunch of photos I took at an event last year- about 1,500. I'd like to print (just desktop printer) them as thumbnails, maybe 20 to a page (four wide and 5 high, or similar.)

This way I can have a 3-ring binder the people can look through, find the photo they want (one with them in it, maybe) and read off the number, in which case I can then bring it up on my laptop. Hopefully, if they like it, I can have it printed, make a few bucks.

I have PaintShop and Photoshop, but nothing like Photomechanic or other sorting/storage apps. Basically I need to be able to dump whole folders into the app, and have it spit the laid-out, thumbnailed pages out of the printer. Right now I'd have to batch-convert to get the thumbnail, then lay them out, then print the layout one by one.

Is there any sort of easy-to-use, and preferably free or very cheap, software that'll do this?

Photoshop.

File->Automate->Contact sheet 2

Just make sure all the images are in a master folder, you can even have subfolders, and click the include subfolder icons.

Canon's DPP 2.1 and ZoomBrowser EX 5.6 do contact sheets. You can also include any combination of image attributes with ZoomBrowser, but DPP limits you to the filename.
