Nice shot Colin! Looks like he's all alone. Did he win? Or better question: Did you win? LOL :D

He won I didn't. :(
Thanks Peter and Chuck.

This is great; I really like the strong lines and the slight blur of the horse and rider. My only 'critique' would be to slightly burn in some of the whiter portions (e.g., the Hastings sign and the white dividing line that runs beneath it) and maybe add just a touch of brightness to the horse and rider.

You could also crop it to pano proportions just below the white horizontal line, but I kind of like the background above it. Not sure.

Thanks Mitch. Good points. What do you think of a crop on the right along the pole to take out the Cascadia building?

It depends on what you want the image to convey and how you are defining the subject. The Cascadia doesn't bother me if you are going to leave the top part of the image intact. I think it gives a sense of location, even though it adds a competing element in the image.

In any case, I think you need the space to the right of the finish line, as cropping at the pole would make the finish feel like a dead stop at the edge of the frame. So, if you crop off the top, then I would say leave the space and maybe clone out the pole. If you are going to leave the top, then I'd say leave it as is (except for the small items previously discussed.)

You know it's funny - I've never been to a horse race, but this image of yours makes me want to bring my camera to one and grab a few shots! The Belmont isn't too far away...

Cheers,

Thanks New Girl and for the points Mitch. I don't really play the pony's but the wife likes to once a year for fun.
With that new camera of yours I expect to see some fantastic horse racing photos.

In this photo the blur is slight but I have a couple more where the blur is more drastic. So question, do you think more would be too much? Mind you that the other photos show the horse and jockey's grouped to the finish line.
